Q: How would you classify foreign men vs.women who live in China?

So obviously this is generalizing and there are exceptions to the rule but here's my list (haha, I know this is gonna stir up some sh*t):

Foreign men:

- Sleazy

- Mainly interested in getting laid with local women

- Not terribly qualified in their profession

Foreign women:

- Well educated and cultured

- Not interested in getting laid with local men

- Extremely driven professionally

Not sleazy at all. I think you hit the nail right on the head. But you forgot one observation about foreign men, which is, they like to get drunk every night and shout, 'let the wild rumpus begin!!"

I think expat behavior in China varies greatly depending on whether they're single or married.

One thing that happens quite often and that's little mentioned is expat wives who have to give up their jobs to follow their husbands here. Well educated, stay-at-home moms who live in very closed social circles while their husbands live a more thrilling life, fulfilling their ambitions, etc.

But I don't think it's 100% fair to blame the (single!) expat men for having girls throwing themselves at their feet.  After all, if Chinese men were a bit taller, a bit less shy about approaching us (and, perhaps, a bit more well-mannered), single foreign girls would probably be enjoying themselves a bit more too.

In my experience, based on white womenz I've met IRL and not you lovely ladies on these forums, I've found that foreigner women are about the same as the men sans the sex. Never met one with a shred of career ambition, except this one who was on a two week business trip.

Nothing wrong with that. One of my favourite people in the world is just this harmless hippy woman who loves teaching pre-school and learning about mystical jibber-jabber. There's probably no better place for her in the world.

Gonna have to defend defend the boys here, Redaria. The male expats (not all that many, grantred) I've met in China have all been great guys, but perhaps my experience here in the desert is a little different from the major cities. I guess the sexpats are not attracted to Urumqi, and I'm highly thankful for it.

I haven't actually spoken to a single other foreign woman since I arrived, so I don't know if your characterisation of expat women is true or not.

Your description of expat men is remarkably similar to the men I met when I spent a few months in Thailand, though, so perhaps those types are also attracted to the city you're in?

Yes Redaria, some of your generalizations are retarded and insulting. Ex. Foreign guys are sleazy. This is one that I've read several times which gets old. Most of the foreign guys that I've met in my overseas experience (Europe and Asia) have been pretty decent guys. I haven't met any foreign gals here in the P.R.C. so I can't speak of them.

Ex. Mainly interested in getting laid with local women. Look, if I meet some attractive, nice Chinese gals..hey, I'm a single guy alright? Of course, I'd like to chat with them and see how it goes. No, it's not about the main interest being to get laid. * Props to you Beetlebee.

To many generalizations

You see those mans because they just show off, and they put themselves into the bright light. It, just a playboy acting. Even if there are few of them - they make a noise like an army.

But I met few expat girls, even had two of them in my company... Maybe they were not loud, but surely lazy, and wanted to be treated as supreme race, who just makes a favor for chinese companies, to teach them how to work, how "civilized world" should looks like, and so on...

Please don't judge book by a cover. The "cover of expats" in china might be the "examples" that You pointed out. But three are thousands of pages inside.

For my part, I have met a LOT of sleazy foreign men in China over the last five years, but can only remember two sleazy foreign girls in that same time period.

The women who come to China generally seem MUCH better behaved than the men, though as those two women demonstrated, there are exceptions.

It may be a generalization, but that is what I have observed.

GuilinRaf:

I will add that I have also met many honorable foreign gentlemen as well....

Yep, that's a pretty fair assessment. Hunting dawgs on the prowl.

Well, I'm already married so I don't claim to know what goes on with single ex-pat's in China but I can only say this:

By far, most of the young men we met (Americans, Brits, some Canadians) we found to be pretty decent young guys. Not sleazy types at all. More 'bookish' or somewhere closer to the 'introvert' personality.

A few were, naturally, as younger single men, looking for love or wanting to have a girlfriend. But I'd peg them more as the monogamous types.

I have heard of this 'sleazy' type but we did not find many that seemed to fit that description. I can think of one Brit we met who did. Most were more 'shy' and even 'nerdish'.

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
