I've only heard that it's one of China's coastal boomtowns, though you're in a nice part of the country with Hangzhou, Nanjing, Suzhou and Ningbo all nearby.

I lived there for a few years. Its got a big urban center and sometimes gets called "Little Shanghai" Like most cities, there's all kinds of stuff to do in the downtown area but entertainment options start to dry up the further you go outside of town. The cost of living is a good bit lower than nearby Suzhou. The first subway line broke ground four years ago so should be finished soon. They could really use some public bikes like the ones we have all over Suzhou now. There's also Wuxi New Development business zone with an international airport and another train station in the suburbs but I don't know much else about it. I think its mostly for industries and manufacturing. If you're into nature and tourist sites, they've got mountains, Tai Lake and the LingShan Buddah out in the countryside. The major university is Jian Nan Da Xue. It specilizes in food science and recruits alot of international students, many from Africa.

Wuxi has public bikes. They're orange. The major uni is Jiangnan. Nice place. Too bad I might move.
