Q: How's everyone travelling through the Winter?

Been pretty cold lately.  We had -30 this morning and the lady had to walk to work because the car was frozen.

No drama for me though as I'm settled on the lounge in front of the tennis in not much more than my speedo's, the same as every day.

How you handling the weather where you are?  Thinking it might be a challenge if you haven't got the heating on.

What's the temperature?

Man, -30*C is bad for Ozz-man. You're watching tennis in speedos in Xinjiang? LOL

-2*C to -6*C the lowest in Kaifeng. Not too cold, so I'm still walking around the city.

Got hard sleeper (middle, I think) to Beijing on Feb 4th with dep. at 10pm from Kaifeng.

I-pod, battery charger, UE in-ear-headphones and roll of toilet paper handy....

Will continue to Doha on Feb. 6th early morning (1:30am) flight, with arrival to Barcelona on 7th, I think.

I have to get return train ticket Bj - ZZ or Kaifeng on Feb 25th, before I depart.

I must stay overnight in Beijing, because of the late evening arrival to PEK.

Begging for admission to Bj Hotel is in the cardsangry.

royceH:

Good luck with all that.  I'm doing something similar but quite different.  Leaving for Urumqi on the 4th and catching the plane at 0200 to go to Moscow via about 5 hrs in Astana.  Then change to go to St Petersburg where we're booked into a lovely looking hotel that has a nudie bar down stairs.  Wife said wooohooo about that one.

Then to Vyborg and finally back to Moscow for a few days.

Reason is we need a break from the weather.

When I fell off my bike a couple of weeks ago it was around -18.  Too cold for walking I thought to myself.  Big mistake.

I thought only Londoners ride bikes in 'minus' weather...angel. Mine is wrapped in bed sheet till +15*C.

I read travel reviews on Astana last summer. Have small US$ notes for money there. Careful in St. Peter. Loads of HIW around, I heard. Was there few times with ship on Baltic cruise with Copenhagen my fav port of call. I've never exited the ship in St. Peter.

I saw Russian Air tickets in my direction too, but with longer overnight stay, so I picked Doha.

You're looking for break from winter in Moscow? LOL. See France (Cote d' Azur), Spain or Portugal next time. My next ticket refund will be in Funchal's direction.

Good luck with getting your return train ticket! That's probably THE WORST time to be trying to get one! Try to get someone to buy online for you..

But other than that - jealous! Have a good trip!!

I'll take anything they'll give, even standing. I hate, 'cause I must stay in Bj overnight at return.

No need for 'jealous'. I stayed in my room entire summer last year. It was major 'fuk-up' with Pak. visa. I spent monnies for Bj's Pak Embassy travelling and stay, and got denied for some 'ben' reason.

Then, I wanted to go to Xinjiang and Yunnan, and I couldn't get return tickets. I had to pay to cancel one way-tickets I purchased already.

I deserved easy trip this winter.

I'm in the South already so I see no reason to go anywhere else in China to freeze my bottom up North, beside I am working on personal projects so it keeps me busy during the national holidays.

I expect to be welcoming a frozen Texan/Beijinger to my TROPICAL 7 DEGREE home in the near future. Suspect the local beach will not be a real good option this CNY. even the e-bike is not a real "comfortable" option today. Taxi or city bus may be the best viable option for transport.

royceH:

Going soft there old man.  What is it....like 7?  Sheeiit... When I'm on the bike I don't even put gloves on till it's below freezing.  And I'm a Queenslander!

I am the guy that said, anybody that comes to China and lives north of North 30 degrees latitude has to be nuts.  and yes I am pretty much in my tried and true Canadian hibernation mode many January's and February's

+15 this morning ... almost liveable and on the real bright side, today is PAYDAY, and Canadian dollar is up pretty good, so will be rushing to the bank this afternoon.

Apparently, we've had the coldest in a number of years as well... I think we got to -11 (although my weather app was suggesting -15). Apparently, we also had a "blizzard" that closed the schools... I must have missed it in the gentle snowfall we had... sure, we had about a foot of snow over a day or 2... but that was it!

For a city that gets a snowfall basically every year, they really have no idea how to handle one!

I'm not liking washing my hands... water is too friggin cold!

As for the holidays... nowhere. Not this time...

royceH:

Minus 15 is starting to get a bit nippy all right sure.  Where are you at cobber?

You getting the tennis there?

This winter was my wife's last straw. She's pressuring me to get a car. We went shopping today. . I guess I should be glad she lasted three years.

royceH:

We bought a car about 18 months ago and it was a great decision.  Where are you living?  We're -27 again today.
