Q: "Huang Jiu" alcohol to treat common cold?

A Chinese friend gave me some huang jiu alcohol last night with a dried plum at the bottom after I told them that I wasn't feeling well and had a sore throat. They said that it was used to treat colds. I thought that this sounded pretty ridiculous, but went  for it anyway. Sure enough, I feel pretty good this morning and my cold's gone.

What is this stuff?

As I know, dry plum (prune) is an excellent laxative. Plum brandy, or any brandy lower your body temperature. I never heard of treating cold with brandy.

However, wine does increase your body temperature, and help you sweat. After sweating, your high body temperature gets much lower, and overall feeling during cold is much better.
