Q: A hypothetical visa question...

Our guy working in China (non- teaching), wishes to do masters in one of the Chinese universities... due to time constraint he cannot enroll in full time, so he has to take a part time (36 months course)... and since he is currently on Z visa he is wondering if in case he could not stay with the same employer or was not able to extend the visa for 3 years and have to leave for some reason... what do you think our guy should do?

Is there a possibility to change the visa mid way during the course from z to x if the need arises? have you heard anyone did this before?

No, I don't have a clue how to convert Residence permit to student's visa. Z visa expire in 30-days of the entry to China, and it's replaced with RP. I would think, China exit would be in cards, but I'm not sure.

You could get first hand A by dialing SAFEA (Foreign Expert Bureau) in Province concerned.

Enter 'SAFEA' in search above for address and contact no. in your Province.

Not sure.

I do know that you can study while on a Z visa RP, but you cannot work while on an X visa RP.  I also know that a visa cannot be changed from within Mainland China, he would have to either go home or get it done in HK.

Ask SAFEA.

Thanks, I guess once the situation arises then he should contact SAFEA...

Though I am still confused about how would a FT employee can enroll for part time degree? do you know expats working and studying at a university at the same time?

Spiderboenz:

Technically it is possible.

Classes in the A.M.  and working in  the P.M. at a training center.

I was discussing a hypothetical question about visas yesterday. If a gay married person got a work visa then his/her spouse could come to China using the marriage certificate.

ScotsAlan:

Nope. China does not recognise same sex unions.

I know that but the requirement just requires a matriage certificate. This was what me an my co-worker were debating. I personally think they won't allow that but if they have the documents.

I see your point Lord H. I know a guy who got an S visa in his passport to come see his Chinese girlfriend. But he put reason for visit as marriage. Yup, S is a strange choice for that, but thats what the visa center gave him.

I think so too Lord H. Within the next 2 years I expect. After all, they just have no announce the law. No republicans to drag it through the courts... In China... Todays new law is..... OK !

Know a teacher with a child. He had Z visa and child was also related to this RP. At the age of 18 somehow in 1 month they've changed child's visa to a student one.

Hi,

I´m currently finishing my studies at university, and I was volunteering in Office for international students. If you need to change your working visa to study visa, they can do it immediately as you pay tuition fee... Just go to the school you selected and apply for studies there. They will help you with everything.

Just one good advice. Choose school with more than 1000 international student, they will probably have better service for their students....

Fluksova_Hana:

The problem is, with X visa he can not legally earn more than i think 800  yuan per month.. but it´s better to ask somebody else...

And if he wants to change X visa back to Z, I´m afraid he has to travel back to his country to apply for it (but about this I´m not 100 % sure)

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
