Q: I am looking for job in Hefei, any idea?

Hi,

I arrive in Hefei two months ago and I dont´get to find any job. I am trying to work teaching English but every school want native people, then, I don´t know if it is possible to do other things in Hefei, does somebody know if there are options to work in hotels? Or teaching other languages?

Best regard,

María

Your best bet is to try Government Kindergartens.. But you know the salary will be low.

All the kindy jobs I have seen are generally better paying than Uni and Middle schools.

ironman510:

Gov Kindy's are 1000 a month per student so the salary is too low for most teachers because the school can't pay a teacher 12,000 a month, so a none native speaker will have to take this job..

Private Kindy's pay more...

Too small city and its not really a big business city as far as i know.

As non native chinese its hard for you to get a job in a hotel or so. if you speak chinese fluently maybe you can but then you still earn maybe 2-3k

teaching english? well hope its just your internet language... otherwise i dont recommend it for you.

Non natives can only mostly get jobs in kindergartens and then again probably not legal

Thanks for your advices.

Dom87, I express my gratitude for your frankness, but each person has to live even when -fortunately- not is a non English native

JungleLife:

In my experiences in what i have seen for people in your situation. you will have to look after your own visa arrangement, and work at perhaps a few different schools taking whatever classes you can. Kindergartens seem to be more accepting of women who are not native speakers as the English is very basic and it is more or less just a daycare.

dont be bothered with my comment i came to china on an business visa too and after half a year i found a real job not being a teacher.

i know that you have to live ( i had too) but i just told you the truth that the chinese are racists.

there are very few schools that can provide non native speakers a real working visa. As you might know if you have not a Z visa they will most likely screw you over (i speak from my own experience...)

my comment about the language was just curiousity... if you write an application with that english dont be surprised if you wont get an english teaching job.

you might have read some of my comments and i m totally against these "native only" policy.

i now that by myself, i am "non native" too. just wanted to be honest and share my experience. i dont like this system either, cause i learned english from non natives too and now my english is good enough to speak with fluently and communicate in business (thats what english is for, no?)

A:Well, doing a medical exam ahead of time wasn't actually necessary. I signed a promissary note stating that I was in good health and would do the result once I arrived in China. This was enough. -- norninman
