Q: I just ate some lotus root

saw them putting this stuff in 5kg boxes for export ,,found out what it was and thought "cool"  healthy food I suppose .... bought some and wife did up  dish that she says the locals like......  well I sort of liked it, but I kept getting this hairy shit hanging from my mouth......  blamed the wife for putting her hair in my soup t start with, before I realized it was from the root ................  once I figured it out ..OK ..but I don't like having to figure it out ... the hairy stringy shit shuld not be in my food!!!!!

Fry the lotus root rather than boil it (or fry it too long). You won't get the stringy-crap.

Lotus root in hotpot is fantastic and lotus root in soups is a good substitution for potato.

  ROTUS ROOOT!!! Ahh, I love the stuff, the wife cooks it in a soup. Bidda salt, bidda oil, some ROTUS ROOOT and a load of pork ribs. Job's a good'n.

Just fry it with little chilli..and it will be like chips..enjoy it with tomato sauce..

Lotus root is one of the things I miss from China. What's great about it is it stays crispy no matter what you do to it. Usually I had it cooked in some kind of sauce or in hotpot.
