Q: I once went up to a Chinese wearing a crucifx, mistook them to be Christian. Who should be offended?

We didn't have much to say after that.

Why would anyone be offended ?

If you think they should be offended for mistakenly belonging to your religion, then maybe you should rethink your faith. If you think you should be offended for them having what is essentially a commonly used symbol, then maybe you should consult your big book of answers, I am sure it has a section on tolerance.

lol, Scandy about the big book of answers.  If he actually even consults his Bible, he would see that a crucifix is not even a native "Christian" symbol.  It's pagan in origin.  Other cultures have used it for ages before Christianity.  I think the OP should be offended that his teachers taught him that a crucifix was a sign of Christianity.

mike695ca:

While this is true, no chinese person understands it as a pagan symbol. It is fully well known exactly what it represents. Im not for it or against it. You might get peeved if you see a "fake" christian in China, but dont you get more pissed seeing a rapper thank god before singing about raping ho's?  Its the same thing when you see the Chinese with the swastika symbol... makes me uncomfortable but either they are ignorant..... or really really love white people. What can you do?

Wrong question. I bet you're the life of the party everywhere you go.

Red_Fox:

Bill - Give the guy a break. Traveler "Belle Watson" fed him the question...

Fact is, the question is somewhat disjointed. Are we to believe that the OP is a Christian or what? I don't get it myself, but it sounds a bit suspect...

I mean, why should anybody be offended, right?

It depends on what you and the Chinese said during the conversation. without knowing it, it's hard to say who should be offended.

Red_Fox:

Did the OP and the guy with the crucifix even have a conversation? Hard to tell. If they did, what was it about?

Red_Fox:

Ha! Good one. But did the OP have much to say to begin with? Who started the conversation? Who ended it? How long did it last? What was actually said? It's anybody's guess...

@OP: Can you elaborate a bit? Cheers!

Chinese people wear things from every religion without knowing what they are because they find them cute. I once saw some innocent young lady walking around with satanic symbols all over her shirt. Apparently it was "unique." I stopped and asked her if she was a satan-worshiping junkie, and she didn't know what I was talking about.

Then I asked her if she was a wiccan, and if she practiced witchcraft. Again, "Huh?" Then I told her the meaning of the shirt. "uhhhh........uhhhhhhhhhhhh......... uhhhhhhhhhhhh..........uhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.........."

Vyborg:

Reminds me of those two couples wearing Nazi-uniforms at their weddings. Even Chinese people didn't like it, and their reply was: 'we thought it was nice fashion'.

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
