I want to leave my teaching job one month earlier and stay in another city for a few weeks before heading back home. Will I get in trouble in the airport when I try to leave the country a few weeks later?
I'm afraid that the school will somehow cancel my 1 year residence permit and that authorities will try to find me.
The school treated me quite nasty in some ways and they were afraid I would leave them during spring festival, that's when they 'threatened' me by reminding they helped me get a residence permit and would do everything they could to make further stay in China impossible after I'd leave. Can they do this?
And what about future visits to China, will they be influenced by anything this small private English training school can do?

I have learnt from one of this website's forums that when your visa is finished you get 30 days L visa which means you are as free as a bird....
Lycan:
But where does this visa come from? Don't you need to go to Hong Kong to get this visa? What if you plan to leave before the residence permit expires, should you still get a tourist visa?
hunny797:
Its not my experience.. Its just what I heard...
It will be maybe provided to you when you terminate your contract and inform the government...
this is China.. There's no hard and fast rule to do anything..you just have to try the options...
As said above you are automatically allowed to remain 30 days in the country when your RP come to an end, this is to make sure that you have enough time to leave as it would cost more to China to deport you and money is everything here. You won't get any L-visa in your passport, but won't get into troubles or fined at the border if you leave before 30 days after your RP expires.
Lycan:
Does the situation change in case there is a fine stipulated for breaking the contract?
My contract says I need to pay 5000 RMB in case I break the contract (i.e. leave early).
What if I refuse to pay and leave, and they go to the police. Will that lead to trouble?
hunny797:
why are you so desperate to leave a month earlier?
If it is the travel..you can do it after your contract expires..
If it is the job you can just try to bear it..Its just one month.. you can take your due holidays...one month is not a long time, unless you are waiting for your salary..
Lycan:
I feel this last month will be a waste of my time, and the school leaves a real sour taste in my mouth (won't go into details). They are still 'discussing' whether or not I will receive my 5000 RMB upon completing the contract (haven't given me an answer in 2 weeks). I asked to leave a few days earlier than the contract ends because of a certain direct flight I want to get on. I'm confident they will use this opportunity to save money and just refuse to pay me.
I really don't want to wait and only leave after the contract ends.

You ask why the post is done as anonymous? No idea, must've clicked something wrong. Never posted here before.
The thing is, if you leave early the school will probably notify the PSB who would cancel your RP. The RP is tied to the job.
If your name comes up on the computer at the airport as having being in the country on an expired VISA it might get complicated for you.
hunny797:
it might?? I think it will...
As he mentioned his school people are a bunch of losers..
They are definitely going to be pissed.. And so he is definitely going to suffer to leave like that
Stiggs:
I've heard that it's actually a legal requirement that the school notify the PSB when they have a teacher leave, so it wouldn't necessarily just be because the school wants to get even, though I'm sure that would be a part of it.
I would just see the last month out and look into getting a tourist visa.
Lycan:
So it seems I can only get out of this hole if I get on a plane directly before they notify PSB? But future visits to other parts of China might lead to me being stopped in the airport because of this 'history' I suppose. So I'm stuck? One month is a very long time if you're just waiting to be able to leave..
Stiggs:
Well this is China so there is no absolute answer but I think there's a good chance that would be how it goes down if you leave early, yes.
when you post a question the last option is a check box...keep it un checked if you dont want to be anonymous..
below this check box the detail is written..you can translate it into another language easier for you to understand...
To be taken as a joke....
Do your month. And do them no favours. Get into holiday mode by all means....but turn up and do your job. It's only a month....perhaps do it in an alternative way.
Before you go, but after they've paid you, express your grievances to them in a translated letter.
