I have been working for an English training school for 6 months and even though I enjoy my students and coworkers, I have a really big problem with management. I also recently found out that I make much less than my male co-workers (because my stupid boss worships the male teachers). My contract doesn't end until March 2013 but I can't take it anymore....I really want to quit, but I am afraid of the consequences. What is the worst that could happen?
According to my contract, if I leave with more than 6 months left in my contract, I have to pay 20,000 rmb. But I highly doubt this rule, because another teacher just quit on the spot one day and didn't come back (this happened before I started working there). I know I am being taken advantage of and my friend can introduce me to a new job where I work half as much but get paid twice as much. I know I want to quit, I just don't know how to go about it.

If you are ill for longer time consecutively (more than 30 days), they will let you go. Every Contract has that provision in it. School won't be paying too long for your sick leave, I think!
I would do that! Say to physician, your back hurts when you are walking.
Most worst they will not give you experience certificate/reliving certificate/no due certificate/no objection certificate.. like that..
Here is the worst case scenario:
1) They cancel your work visa (They are actually required to do this by law.)
2) They demand that you honor your contract and pay the 20k or they will not give you the release letter that a lot of legit employers require. (This letter releases the hiring company of any liability of hiring you due to non-competition agreements, etc...)
3) They send thugs to beat you to a pulp until you pay. (This is REALLY worst case scenario.)
4) They refuse to give you your expert certificate till you honor your contract. (If they are holding it.)
5) They refuse to give you your passport until you honor your contract. (Again, if they are holding it.)
Of course, this only matters if you plan on staying in China (except for #5) and getting another teaching job.
Work half as much and get twice the pay? How much are you actually making there? local wages?
If I were you I would just wait it out one more month to bypass the 6 months rule to save yourself headaches later on. They can make your life a living hell here depending on who they know.
try to not work hard then the boss will fire you and cancel your visa....that's it
you can quit this job.only you should tell your leader firstly. Many contracts is form.who will transfer your salary to your bank in the next month.
derek:
abc: This advice is brutal. You are telling her to quit and tell her leader. You expect that she will be treated well? We are in China! She will be totally screwed.
If you want to stay in China, it's tricky. If not, just pull a runner.
you are pathetic. you negotiate a contract with a school and mid way through you wanna leave because you think you found a better offer. how can you claim your school is taking adavantage of you? are you a juvenile? are you mentally retarded? if not than you as a fully functional adult are responsible for holding up your end of the contract. you claim you have trouble with the management, give details! your problem is that you were too stupid to do any research prior to signing your contract. and i have a question for you, if the job offers twice the pay and half the work, then why is it vacant at this stage ? i hope you quit, sign with that other school and it turns out to be a scam. and because you went against your word (contract) you will be forced to leave china (no legit school will hire a nutjob w/o a release letter).
MissA:
Hmmmmm, I see your point about meeting a contract crimo. I've always seen a contract as something to be upheld, but.... I think she was impying here that she'd already has issues with management and that this was the final straw.
A lot of people get taken advantage of in their first contract, particularly if they're young and just out of uni. If she's found out she's being royally ripped off, I don't blame her for reconsidering her options.
szj_girl:
Thank you MissA for sticking up for me. Crimochina, what is your problem? I was genuinely asking a question and was hoping for feedback, you don't have to be such an asshole. If you were in my position you would probably feel the same way, so don't be so quick to judge and call people names!
I do believe contracts are very important and I would never think about breaking it if I had a different option. The point is, my school cheated me and made me work illegally for five months. Everybody (even some parents) think I am the hardest working teacher at the school and yet I still get paid 2,000 less than my other co-workers. I don't deny that I was being a little naive when I first signed my contract, but there is nothing I can do about it now.
Also, its really easy to be such a jerk and bully people on the internet, but I'm sure you're just a pathetic loser in real life!!!!
firstly, i would like to know if you are chinese.I am working as HR diretor, perhaps my advice may help you. Please feel free to contact me.
Good luck.
The best thing is to confront the relevant authorities and consult them without heist

"You took your boots off? You put your feet on the table? You shit-kicking, stinky, horse manure smellin' motherfucker you. You fuck me up over there, I'll stick you in a hole in the fuckin' desert."
"I think in all fairness, I should explain to you exactly what it is that I do. For instance, tomorrow morning ill get up nice and early, take a walk down over to the bank and... walk in and see and uh... if you don't have my money for me, I'll... crack your fuckin' head wide open in front of everybody in the bank. And just about the time that I'm comin' out of jail, hopefully, you'll be coming out of your coma. And guess what? I'll split your fuckin' head open again. 'Cause I'm fuckin' stupid. I don't give a fuck about jail. That's my business. That's what I do."
I would quit by not vilolating the contract if possible, it is not good for your working background if you want it to be on your resume.
Sandnose:
Let's be honest here for a moment shall we?
A resume in China consists of a single page of total fiction.
For a foreigner, having worked in China is something they would probably want to keep off their resume if they were applying for a decent job.
It really doesn't score you bonus points in an interview.
Upon seeing that stain on a resume, the interviewer will assume there is something wrong with you mentally and/or socially, you are untrustworthy, lazy and an alcoholic.

China is the future, whether you like it or not. Have China experience is a bonus for a lot of job application. A lot of my clients hired Chinese or people has China experience to deal with Chinese suppliers. China is also a big consume market full of gold, a lot of companies want to sell to China market including myself. I have been only selling outside of China but now I want to sell to China. Taobao is full of foreign products now, I constantly buy them online and get them delivered to me, even in small town of China, I can see foreign milk/wine/beer. China is the biggest supplier and also the biggest consumer in the.world! Undeniable, China as a whole country is getting rich, there is not much jobless and homeless people in this country, almost everyone has who has an office job gets medical insurance and retirement social fund. Being arrogant and refuse to see the rising of China power is not smart at all.
Sandnose:
You keep drinking that koolaid.
Alienating all of your trading parters isn't going to turn out well. Already several countries are re-sourcing alternative supply chains and it will only become more widespread. 2020 hasn't been a good year for China's image or reputation.
Viki87:
Ha! You sure it is that easy to replace China as the supply chain? You need technology for producing, you need workers who are familar with the production and you need a mature transport system for fast delivery. I have seen that a lot! For instance I want HPMC at xxx degree, you think any factory in Vietnam knows how to do it? You need experienced chemical engineers from this feild. If I want a 777-333ER model plane with landing gear, you think any cambodia factory has the technogy to make sure the molds come out well and the plane body is smooth and the livery printed out well with no gap? Industry takes a long time to develop, need experienced engineers, designers and experienced workers. Not that easy as you think. I have industry background and able to understand how it works. China is on the way to be more developed with diversity, you can seee the rasing of Wechat, Huawei, taobao.com.,etc. China has developed many types of strong business models, not just a.manufacturing hub. Also like I said, China is the biggest export market for western countries. More and more middle class raised in China. China controlled covid while the world lost its control. Covid economy recession will go on for many years, western economy will enter recession, china will be the winner.
Sandnose:
Hahaha. It's going to be a bit inconvenient for a while but the future is bright for every country freeing themselves from the yolk of an unhinged bully.
India, Japan, Australia and USA have already begun a new agreement and lots more countries are eager to join. China peaked in 2019. Covid19 hit/was dispatched and China made a complete dick of itself with the lies, threats, economic & military bullying and uncouth diplomacy. The world is over that shit. China had an opportunity and blew it badly.
Just like when a crazy manipulative entitled girlfriend whose ego doesn't match reality, goes too far, you dump the bitch and move out of her circle of influence and get on with a better life. Sure, you might have to jerk off to porn for a while but you get over it and will hook up with someone who wants to be friends with benefits.
And I just saw that Huawei in Europe has become Hu Are We in record time. They'll be a nothing domestic only brand before long. The writing is on the wall.
Sandnose:
That's funny coming from an uneducated bumpkin who runs a insignificant business from her bedroom in her parent's home in a grubby village where everyone holds you in contempt... lol.
You should read more and I don't mean biographies of billionaires or Chinese propaganda fantasies. Actual books. Then you won't come off like loud mouthed trash each time you open your mouth. You may know a lot about getting drunk guys into carparks but believing that China will just go on as it did before the pandamic is laughable. The world is over the lies, corruption, bullying, threats and loud rudeness.
It's always funny that Chinese justify being loud rude aggressive peasants with 'but you can do business and get rich'. You can take the peasant out of the village but you can't take the village out of the peasant.
What your boss can do: whine and moan and make a lot of noise then providing you give one full month notice, he can say goodbye by giving you a separation letter. That's it
