I took a cab to my home, which should cost at the most 20 RMB (event at 5am). The meter said 50 RMB. I argued, and said it was too expensive. I took pictures of his ID. The taxi driver then drove me to an area 10 minutes away, stopped, and got out of the car with a Phillips screwdriver. I got out not really knowing what to do. He immediately hit me in the head. I felt the blood running down my face and I had two heavy bags, so I just gave him the 50 RMB.
I got the next cab and went straight to the police station near my house. They were nice enough, but said I needed to go to the police station in the district where I was assaulted.
I have a cut above my eyebrow and blood all over my clothes. That's really it as far as how it affects my life.
Is it worthy pursuing?
You didn't try to defend yourself? I don't really believe your story. Once you refused to pay and he drove further it is obvious what was going to happen. 10 minutes and the car didn't have to stop at any lights? Let's say that it didn't stop once. That should have been more than enough time for you to come up with a plan to defend yourself. If he took a sharp object and got out of the car you could have locked the car door and stole the car to get away. If he took the key then you should have just got out quickly grabbed some rubble from the floor (bricks and large stones are everywhere in china) and hit him first. If someone really has an object that can kill you and is going to attack you being deported is not on your mind. Your story is too unbelievable.
You should see MD for check-up of wound, and get some kind of certificate of it. Taking a pic of the wound could be useful too.
Then, you'll need Chinese lawyer or some friend with 'guanxi', who'll advice you further. I believe, it's possible to squeeze some money out of this.
That's how it would work in Western world (or in my mind).
I rarely use taxis in China, because of distrust on charges and inability to clearly explain, where I want to go. Sometimes drivers refuse to give me ride, because of laowai features.
Today, I'm visiting Zhengzhou, and.....two different Chinese persons (student and mill's manager) advised me, which bus I should use in between four points in the city. It took them around 60' each to answer my Qs on right bus numbers in the city. I already purchased first bus ticket to ZZ.
After I stuck itinerary list to my pocket, friend of the manager offered me ride to ZZ Hotel, where I have first meet. Afternoon, he'll pick-me up, and drive me to the Supermarket for groceries shopping, and he'll take me back to Campus, some 40 km away. He is certainly 'guanxi' guy.
Back to your injury: 'I would defend myself, 'cause I'm trained in MA.'
International new media - more stories get out , the government will be shy.
if you have a legal visa, go to the psb to report the incident, many times local police want even talk to you with out the psb visa officers present, they dont like foreigners being attacked and your school and the psb are responsible for your safety, but if this was related to part time work, dont bother, no help.
Just get a chinese friend to call the company and send the photos to the operator. They''ll get one it....maybe. They may even pay for medial expenses....maybe. Of course, they may not care.
I guess from you OP that you aren't seriously hurt. Hopefully not.
Clean you wound,
I'm sorry to hear that. Always take a picture of the drivers if you can, along with the license plate numbers.
Yes, you should pursue justice.
Really, you guys are buying this guy's BS story? He drives 10 minutes away, you cant open the fucking door? You can't pull the hand brake?
What the fuck were you doing while the meter ran up to 50? Masturbating in the back?
He's coming to one door with a screwdriver, mmmmm run out the other door?!
I'm bleeding from the head why not; call a Chinese friend, go to the hospital, go to the police station they told you to, contact the FAO from your school, no the best thing to do is go to ECC and make a post for the dumb sheep posters.
talkword:
It's my first time being assaulted, so I froze. I had two heavy bags, so I couldn't just take off.
Hotwater:
You could have used one of those heavy bags as a shield or threw it at him. You didn't try to defend yourself at all? BS story
i dont really get why you you allow him to hit you and still pay him ? break his fvckn arms or legs. leave him a bloody mess on the side of the street. screw the police here, they dont do anything.

I once heard, not sure how true it is...that a mate and his girlfriend (Chinese, later his wife) got driven out into the countryside to do a strand and robbery job. On the way the Chinese girl told her 6 foot 7 boyfriend to "do something." He wrapped the driver'ss eatbelt around the guys neck, and said to pull over now...while they were still in "the city." The driver did, realizing he just messed with he wrong guy....
I have no reason to disbelieve your story. Being put into an awkward situation that becomes a dangerous one won't always release the inner ninja in everyone. And the skeptics above are quite possibly pulling their puds while imaging themselves to be small-time action heroes.
Go get your employer to take you to see the PSB and all the best of luck.
Next time you catch a cab get out of it before paying the fare through the window. If the driver isn't happy with what you pay, well....fukim! And walk away.
That is when having connections and knowing people comes in handy. I never went into a brawl in China but it ever happens and I will call some friends in the local government, after that it is most likely that my attacker will see thugs on his doorstep, or the cops.
This is considering that I didn't kick his ass myself already, it's not like Chinese guys are ripped or know how to fight anyway.
Lord_hanson:
I thought cops and thugs are the same thing in China. They even work in shifts. First the police arrive, they leave just before the thugs appear then agter the thugs leave the police come back.
so a taxi driver 5 ft nothing weighing a buc 25 kicked your azz lol what a wuss lmao
