You need to move to a new city that doesn't have this law, like in Guangdong province and best is to try in Guangzhou or Shenzhen. Don't worry you just need a new company and new city out of Sichuan. Don't need to leave.  I'm going on six years straight same.  company, same school, with 6 Resident Permits in my passport and 6 stamps in my FEC book. .

To be fair no one answered your first posted question really clearly.

Hope this helps.

I guess it happens if you stay in China for 5 years without going overseas - or going home for a visit.

No idea why this question got so many down votes. It's a legit question.

Probably because he asked it twice. Also, 4 is not 'many'

@bill8899, It only happens in Sichuan province, or its used by a company as an excuse to fire you or release you. But you can and should move to a new company in Sichuan before the 5th year.

Hi I was wondering about this topic too, would anyone know which Chinese cities or provinces doesn’t have this specific law which states that if you have had the same type of visa for 5 consecutive years then you need to leave the country?
I might be in his situation in the near future and would like to start looking now to where I can move to be employed or do I need to go back home for a maximum of 12 months which would be such hassle any insight anyone?

(Does anyone know if Yunnan province has this law as I am willing to move to another province and company for a year)

ironman510:

90% of China doesn't use this. I went down this roller coaster ride before and and now have 6 straight RP's in my passport and 6 stamps in the FEC book... Sichuan is been the only province that has confirmed to use this law.

Did they directly state HOME COUNTRY, or just that you must leave China?
If it is just leave China, why not take a job in Thailand/South Korea/Vietnam/Japan for the duration?

ironman510:

They mean out of Sichuan province and you can work in a new province.
