For those of you who want to adopt a dog or cat, there's a nice lady in Chengdu who runs an animal shelter that takes in strays. I went there last month to adopt a dog, and was shocked by the huge number of dogs there. Unfortunately spaying and neutering have not caught on in China yet, and some people still regard animals as toys and get tired of them and throw them away. There are literally hundreds of dogs there, in various breeds and ages to choose from.

Unfortunately the conditions are not the best there due to space and financial constraints, but she does her best with the limitations. She is strict in that she has to interview you and see that you are a responsible person with a job before giving you an animal.
