Q: Ice skating in Beijing?

Since i started coming to answers.echinacities.com I discovered so many things! I find it very very surprising that my Chinese girlfriend never proposed to go do those activities! She is a very shy woman, because regularly, when we go out, she lowers her head whenever I try and make new friends. She never talks to strangers, but I told her it's important to meet new people. Plus, with a spin-o-rama high-five, people are moar inclined to understand you're a fun person! She can be quite the party pooper some times, so I want to help her loosen up.

So I thought about bringing her ice skating! How's that for an idea? Luckily for me, I brought my Anaheim Mighty Ducks jersey and my shoulder pads (you never travel without your shoulder pads, right?) So my plan is to bring her to romantic dinner, make her drink a lot of wine (she loves wine) then bring her ice skating. She doesn't know how to skate (i asked her not long ago) so it will be so romantic. I'll wait until she gets the grasp of skating, then i'll teach her how to receive a bodycheck, because back in Montana, 'Merica, I was quite the enforcer on the ice. One time back in Montana, 'Merica, there was this Turcotte guy who came and body checked me. I asked for moar, because he wasn't as good as he pretended. Then as soon as I got the opportunity, I rammed him against the goal poast, it was hilarious because he started compulsively shaking! It was so fun we all went to take a beer after, and he told me he never saw that kind of checking. Ah the good times!

I made so many efforts to understand Chinese culture, I thought I should teach her some 'Merican culture as well!

But for my romantic outing with a twist, I have one problem. Is there an indoor ice skating ring in Beijing? Any halp?

There are many beautiful indoor ice rinks in Beijing! To name a few:

In the basement of Guomao (China World Trade Center) Shopping Mall: Le Cool Ice Rink built by Canadian company and visited by many high profile world figures such as the former Secretary of State Rice who is herself a figure skater and former prime minister of Canada Jean Chretien. Opening Hours: 10 am to 10 pm daily.

You can also find indoor ice rink in the basement of Xidan Shopping Center, basement of Jinyuan (Golden Resources) Shopping Mall.

The two full-size, most professional ice rinks are situated in the Capital Gynasym across the National Library, where Chinese figure skating team and speed skating team conduct the routine training and the National Winter Sports Management Center is located. One of the two ice rinks is only open to paid club members and the other one is open to public during certain hours, normally from 4:30 pm to 8:30 pm. You can find many professional coaches in all these indoor rinks, from retired former top skaters to national team coaches, if you are serious about improving your skating skill.

Houhai lake will freeze over in the next few months (It'll probably be frozen solid by mid-December or so). Every year, they rent out sledges there which are fun. It's a really popular skating spot in the winter so expect a lot of crowds at the weekends.

Beihai is another park whose lake freezes in the winter, although I can't guarantee that it's open for ice-skating.  It's worth checking out though because it's a really scenic spot, especially in the winter when it's covered in snow or frost.

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
