Q: If I renew my passport in China, what happens with the visa inside?

Does anyone know if the above information is still valid? Passport will officially be "full" after I get it back with the new TP, but still has 2 years of validity left.

some countries demand you to staple the passport together ..
depends upon your country's rule and regulation but normally i have seen the people have attached the older passport with the new one but do not throw your passport away even if it get older keep it safe its your identity.
Agreed, depends on what country you're from. No visa should be given if the passport validity is six months until it expires. Most countries do not change your identity number on the lower part of your information page, except America who has changed it's law and now changes this number but will give a government paper stating your old and new number clearly. The U.S. also requires you to give the old passport back. In all honesty it depends on the PSB and requires some to go back home to get a new visa( red envelopes help) but one thing that would surely help, always keep copies of your first entrance and exit stamp, current visa and information page.
The US government returns the old passport after renewal as far as I know. Keeping both at hand is probably a good idea. On the other hand apply for another visa maybe better.
If you renew your passport in China, then a new Chinese visa has to be affixed in the new passport. And no, the US does not keep your old passport -- it will be returned to you with a cancellation mark through it or on it somewhere. Thus if you are on a resident permit, you will simply need to get a new resident permit. If you have lost your passport in China, and received a new one, you will need to obtain a Chinese exit visa if you were here on a tourist visa. It's essentially all the same thing.

Just a small tip carry your old passport or keep it safe sometimes your old passport is useful for a handful of things in China.
My South African passport expires on January 3rd 2018 so when I revewed my visa they only renewed it for 6 months meaning that my visa and passport expire on the same day. This forced me to go and apply for a new passport (it takes 3 months) so when I get the new one I will obviously have to apply for a new visa.
In Canada you are allowed to keep your old passport. I have had this happen to me twice because, at the time Canada had 5 year passports. I just showed my old and new passports to customs in China. They were ok with it. I now have a new 10 year passport. Interestingly; I noticed that My Q2 visa expires 15 months (no nice round numbers) before my new passport expires. I don't know of any changes but it seems to me the Chinese may be issuing visas to coincide with the expiry of the passport.
Your China visa will only affect and be used in China, so you just keep both together and show both when needed.
Do not listen to stupid people giving dangerous advice that is contrary to the law. The law states, as soon as you get a new passport you'll need to go and transfer your visa to the new passport.
