Q: If I see an elderly person fall down in the street, how can I help them?

ATTN: Chinese Law experts:

In light of yesterday's toddler-getting-hit-by-two-cars-and-no-one-helping news....

I know that the legal code in China makes it really easy for victims to sue people who help them (that didn't do anything wrong).... But I don't feel right just watching someone get hurt and then walking away as if nothing happened.

Is there anything I can do to help, whilst also making sure I don't get sued?

I dont understand the law but there is some weird no help stuff happening here. Yesterday on the bus I got up to give a very old lady my seat. it was the ones toward the front that sit a bit higher and she was struggling to lift herself up to sit down. I instinctively grabbed her upper arm and helped her into the seat. She looked at me a bit strangely and my partner tried to tell me not to touch or help because I could get into trouble.

MrTibbles:

Back in 2006 I believe a woman in Nanjing fell off a bus and a guy helped her. She said thanks by telling the police he pushed her down and demanded money. The case went to court and the judge ruled "The only person who would help is the one responsible, so you must have pushed her." and then he has to pay something like all her medical bills for the rest of her life. So now, helping = your fault, pay money.

funny thing is many ask me about the mcdonalds court case which awarded an old lady 3 mil becoz she was dumb enough to spill coffee on herself. but in the end the actual judgement makes some sense, would you want someone to accidentally spill coffee on you that is hot enough to burn you?

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
