Q: If my visa is cancelled and I'm refused entry into China, how long will it stay on my file?

Recently I was refused entry into China and my visa was cancelled. I was not deported at any time. Does anyone have an idea how long this type of record will stay on your file? In my passport it just says visa cancelled. They said I was working illegally but I was not being paid. I was never arrested and left China on my own accord. Then when I returned I was refused entry.

I have heard 4 years, maybe when you go back home contact the Chinese embassy and find out why they refused you entry and reply to their answer. Don't volunteers information at all. You may of said something to somebody about something sensitive and this caused your plight.
I know of teachers here where I work, have said things and they are gone within a day!

Just goes to show that you keep your gripes behind close doors. Preferably in your own home, or do what I do and rant on a blog.

Beaufortninja in our contract it states" Teachers aren't allowed to talk about Chinese politics in a negative way whilst teaching" amongst other things. They take it seriously is all I was trying to say. It is true that some teachers have been dismissed for this breach. The administration don't like negative talk about China, even in your own free time as people can over hear you and make a complaint. We are a small city and everyone knows somebody My only gripe BTW is, when people try to run over me or walk into me! I don't understand why they do this at all, maybe they can't see me!

Even working and no income is considered working, unfortunately they ask you to leave (within 10 days, i think). If you like you can appeal such a case and get you at least off from the system..

So many persons do come to China (and other foreign countries) and never bother to find out rules and regulations. In China, ANY type of work you do for yourself or for another person, whether YOU ARE PAID OR NOT, requires a series of documents PRIOR to start the work. A WORK VISA, a WORK PERMIT, a Residence Permit, a Registration of temporary Residence Permit, a health certificate, proof of insurance (health), etc. You have 30 days from entering China to get all of these, if not you are illigal here and can be deported.

Technically, to help a friend paint a room in his.her apartment in exchange for a free meal or just "Thank You" does qualify with their definition of "WORK" if they so desire to get at you.

The main reason behind this is not really working without the required documentation, but that in doing so, you show them that you lack "RESPECT" for their Laws, Regulations and Customs. And that is a grave insult to Chinese.

You have been denied entrance once, so something negative is in your record. And now there will be two things, whatever caused you to leave China (you may see it as a voluntary departure, the record may show you were given X days to exit or be deported), and that you were denied entrance at the port of entry you used.

As suggested by someone else, try contacting the Chinese Embassy at your home country with an inquire as of why entrance was denied, and your status for future visas. Please be aware that your passport may show a valid visa on it, but in reality that visa is probably already cancelled in view of the denial of entry you received.

I do not think you will be happy to hear what the Embassy will reply to you. I suggest a very contrite, low key approach, and while ignorance of the law does not releives you of guilt, play your hand showing how sorry you are and apologize for your actions that were made without trying to harm or offend anyone, just help another person in their moment of need.

Good luck to you, I sure do not envy you. Next time, do read about regulations before you visit a country.

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
