Q: If not China, where?

If you were not teaching in China, where would you go?

Or, which teaching experiences have you enjoyed that are not in China?

Just curious...

I've only taught here and Korea. I was a good student back home in America so I would help kids with their homework or classwork. I guess you could call that teaching too, but I wasn't getting paid since I was still a student myself. I use to help my friends brother out with his math homework. Both he and his brother got really bad grades and since I was always going to their house I thought it would be good to try to help the kid go from a D to at least a B.

If I wasn't teaching in China the only other country that interests me is Japan. I taught in Korea and it was fun! I would just like to try something new that's all!

Like 99Silva, I have only really done some tutoring for other students outside of China myself. In my case this was in Britain and was quite fun although I didn't get paid for teaching or tutoring students in how to improve their research and writing methods.

If I wasn't teaching in China, I would probably go for either Taiwan or one of the South-East Asian Tigers that all seem to be doing fairly well economically at the moment. Getting visas for these countries seems to be easier but I am not sure how these are when it comes to jobs. Just an idea really!

It was  my intention of getting more experience, and more qualification, and then heading off to Czech Republic (preferably Prague... but since the European economy has nose-dived, I found I'm better off staying here, earning my money in a low-cost country, and saving 80% of my pay to let me do some travelling elsewhere.

I'm still sort of thinking of going to NZ for a bit, and maybe also Sth America... we shall see!

Spain or France might be nice. too....

if your young korea and taiwan would be my choice but i started teaching abroad to retire early from the bankruptcy of america and korea and taiwan dont think anyone over 40 can teach kids english as well as a young fart, so my choices are limited, even thailand has age limit for public schools of 50 ,  but if i was young a masters degree in linguistics and bank 5000 dollars a month in the middle east for 3 years and travel the world. good luck to you

If I were a 25 year old lady I would look at South Korea, Thailand and possibly the Middle East, but the ME is for money. I have no experience in the Middle East but I think it's safe to say the pay is high, they are demanding, and make sure you follow sharia law. Good place to save money, I guess.

I  teach in China because that is my wife's home and where her family are, (my parents passed away some time ago).

Taught in the UK, adults = fun and rewarding, teenagers not even maybe, as a male too many opportunities for horrendous accusations.

If I wasn't married it would be Dubai,  good salary and you can double it with one to one teaching in your 'free time'. I've worked in Dubai, Bahrain, Qatar, and a few Middle East nations (not as a teacher) and you can drink and don't have to follow Sharia, you just have to drink in certain areas (usually international hotel areas) and get off the streets during prayer times (esp in Saudi the religious police aren't gentle), and don't eat or drink in public during Ramadan, (in fact it's best if you can, to take your vacation in Ramadan and get the hell out of Dodge), of course if I was female I wouldn't even consider it, it's deemed quite acceptable for a male to flash his genitals if he sees a woman 'immodestly dressed'.

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
