Yes of course. It has to mean they have more money then he know what to do with, and nothing about the idea the iPhone is cool and you can buy a fake on at almost any street corner.

Not necessarily, they may have lived on ramen for a few months in order to buy one. But then after they have it, they will appear or portray that they are better off than others.

It means they are insecure, and feel the need to be better than other people (ya and an Iphone does that eh?)
And why does my gf keep asking me for one? Do I have one? No!!!

I don't know in your city but here where i am are many rich people. Own cars more than 2 houses and a strong bank account. So a I phone means nothing to some of them. You think to waste 5000 on a phone makes one rich?

I think to have an iphone doesn't always mean you rich, more or less could mean your not the most intelligent with your money. I've also noticed the most money efficient Zhong guo ren, are the ones who save money more than flaunting it around town.( I love the cut the fruit game Love )

I also have an iPhone and I'm far from being rich.....really far....

I got one as a present, but otherwise here they buy it for fashion....just to show off.

It means the same as it does world wide. That they are a victim of one of the best target and placement advertising campaigns ever. Almost up there with diamonds.

Also you can get them on contract here, so don't need to be rich.

No it just means that they have an iphone in China.

Scandinavian:

it could also mean that they have a fake iPhone in China, or that they have a phone they never use because of the cost is too high after blowing the bduget on the phone

It means that they want everyone to envy them.

The problem with that is if everyone is doing the same thing doesn't it in fact become the norm?

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
