the fact is u gotta pay one months rent as the deposit to the house owner. when u check out your apartment the landlord will do a well thorough check and he will deduct it from your deposit..

Call the landlord, tell him/her that the washing machine is broken, not because u washed urself in side there. Ask him/her to either fix it or buy a new one for u.
It should be in the contract, u make sure u don't break staff on purpose, landlord has to make sure, everything works well during ur stay in.
