If you had to describe something about China in two words what would they be? I would say for me China- Fast Paced! Everything to me seems very busy. This is a big difference back home. In my hometown we don't have subways and most people don't take the bus or use taxis either. That's a big change for me. But if I had to describe something about China in two words it would be that China is - fast paced. imo. It's faster than what I'm use to anyways.
WEALTH DISPARITY or CULTURAL DISPARITY or COASTAL DISPARITY||| I think the key is that China is a big place. That leaves a lot of room for diversity that is often not talked about. You get many of us talking about the pissers in the street or the corrupt government officials. Some of the headlines can really keep our attraction and spur up our opinions, but there is a lot going on outside of where expats are or what draws our attention. The two words that we use to describe China now would most likely change with a closer look or just the passing of time. Hopefully with a closer look or the passing of time would bring a more positive pair of words as opposed to a more negative one. (here's to hoping...) -_-
derek:
".....the passing of time?".....is 5000 years long enough for ya? ...and we wait.
FruitIsGood:
To pull out the 5000 year statistic and phrase it as you have is to put no weight in the impact of the dynamics that this day and age bring. A lot of things are changing quite fast, especially in China. The flow/access of information even with the great firewall is nothing like earlier. Their new government is young. The changes that have happened in their economy and exposure to the outside world is new and met with many different opinions amongst the Chinese. The 'progress' that has been made can be seen between a 1-2 generations. The upbringing that a person has will, in many ways, have a much larger impact on who they are and the choices they make than that 5000 years. GIve it another human generation or two (even if you are dead, many of the changes you wish would happen sooner will likely occur).
