No idea, only other Asian country i've visited is India and as much as I enjoyed it, I wouldn't want to live there. I'd probably give Japan a try.

Can recommend Vietnam.

Nice hot climate, better food, a much easier visa situation, better pay, less bullshit at work (*less is always a relative term...), a much higher level of English makes day-to-day life easier (yeah, whatever, so shoot me), smarter and better behaved kids, some basic understanding of the concept of logic; baguettes, cheese, kebabs, cakes, wine and coffee are freely available and they have actual pubs.

The culture is much more intact that we found it in China, i.e. the people seem to have more of it.

What's the cost of living compared to China? I don't work, I'm a bum, took early retirement. Work sucks.

Thailand!!!!

Nice people, nice weather (even when it's supposedly hot as hell there, it's still better than Guangzhou), lots and lost of activities, and most importantly: great food! And there is just about every other kind of cuisine you want besides Thai.

Beaches galore in the South and travelling to and from anywhere is pretty straight forward.

Isan (Isan/Thai: อีสาน [ʔiːsǎːn]; also written as Isaan, Isarn, Issan, or Esarn; is the northeastern region of Thailand. It is located on the Khorat Plateau, bordered by the Mekong River (along the border with Laos) to the north and east, by Cambodia to the southeast and the Prachinburi mountains south of Nakhon Ratchasima. To the west it is separated from Northern and Central Thailand by the Phetchabun mountain range.Since the beginning of the 20th century, northeastern Thailand has been officially known as Isan, a term adopted from Sanskrit Ishan, meaning in a “north east direction.” The term "Isan" was derived from Isanapura, the capital of the Chenla kingdom. The Lao-speaking population of the region, who comprise the majority, distinguish themselves not only from the Lao of Laos but also from the central Thai by calling themselves Khon Isan or Thai Isan. The Khmer-speaking minority and Kuy (Suai), who live in the south of Isan, speak dialects and follow customs more similar to those of Cambodia than either the Thai people or the Lao people.

who will be first to point out it is not a country?

To work, Singapore, Vietnam or S. Korea, (tbh mainly for the internet).

For music Philippines, (why do they have so many outstanding singers?)

To retire Fiji, (I don't think that counts as Asia but it's sort of regional).

If I was single Thailand (but I don't think I'd survive very long).

S.Korea, no question.

I love the food; clean, spicy and healthy. Beautiful clean parks and palaces, a great place for hiking. Great tea that you can trust to drink. Good quality products, and they are environmentally-friendly.

And cheaper to live than Japan

To work definitely South Korea.  Not the nicest people in the world but they look like saints when standing next to Chinese.  And its clean there, no spitting all the time, and beautiful country.

To retire, the Philippines, went there before on vacation and nowhere in the world will you find nicer people as a whole than this country.  Top that with great food, beautiful women, and they love to KTV alot too.
