Q: If you don't like to KTV, eat and drink excessively, or make "guanxi", what is there left do do?

Putting this another way, do you have many Chinese friends that don't expect anything from you in return?

well if you have a gf then you end up shopping every weekend.

other things to do:

badminton, gym, other sports, pool billiard, swimming, dancing whatever you like. its not like there are much less things you can do than at home, its just "different"

i only have 1 chinese friend tho but i can do all the things with my gf so i dont really care

If you live in a small third tier city.... then pretty much nothing else to do. Better get used to it, or move to a bigger city with more of an expat community. Theres tons of stuff to do here in Kunming. We regulary have bike rides out to surrounding scenic spots, trivia night, poetry night, latin dance night, anime night, movie night, chess tournaments.. etc etc

Yeah I agree with Rin on that. I don't do KTV AT ALL, I don't do guanxi and I don't eat or drink excessively....well......don't drink excessively often I might say.

There is a shit load of other stuff to do in Daqing and this is 4th tier? Not sure.

Winter? I hibernate. Read. Write. Up my guitar skills. Download and watch movies. Plan lessons.

Never bored. Never lonely.

There's just nothing to do.

What do Chinese people do?  Go to work, cook, sleep, go to work, cook, watch tv, sleep.

Chinese students....go to school, do homework, eat, go back to school, do homework, eat, keep doing homework, sleep for a brief period of time, go back to school....

(if ss is a boy, slip in time to play violent computer games..)

Middle aged Australian man....read two month old newspaper, ride to work, try to inspire ss to become interested in learning English, ride home, drink beer.

I spend time with my family, I enjoy my hobbies, I meet friends and play pool, and every night after I finish work I come home, slip into my pyjamas, put on a little Kenny G, and rub my big fat hairy cock.

nothing. life is an endless road of nothingness leading to the end. when you die you don't even know that you have died; or that you have lived.

World of Warcraft.

But then they'll ban you for being a "Chinese gold farmer," even if you're not doing anything suspicious.

Stare at the four walls, smoke cigarettes and make cup of tea after cup of tea trying to get the feeling back in my cold hands.

When I applied for my visa, the Embassy phoned my friend and told him that I have to obey all the laws, that includes no sex with women, kinda seemed like they kept a record of me. I was told that I was the hero of my building for bringing a new girl home every night. I wasn't breaking the law, I gave free English lessons in exchange for letting me practice amateur gynaecology. I need 2 years experience to get a job. Take up a hobby.

A:Going to HK would be the best bet I reckon, especially if you were looking for a church wedding. Chinese weddings are pretty grim IMO - you go to a barren govt dept with souless officials and navigate red tape so some guy can give you a red stamp and a marriage book. You get expensive pictures taken of you both posing in places you'd never go to in everyday life that is somehow supposed to represent your wedding, then a while later it's off to a restaurant where a game show host kind of guy makes sure it's as tacky as possible while the guests eat as fast as they can so they can leave as soon as they finish eating and gave you money. Hell, I'd go to Thailand or the Philippines and get married in Paradise.   -- Stiggs
