Without knowing, I would guess, yes. Otherwise you would see more stories on Chinasmack about waigouren punching people for staring, just to get a free ticket home.

good question.  I often feel I'm gonna cross the line someday and get deported.  I also wonder how they fine someone if you say you don't have any moolah...?   do they open your wallet and help themselves?  Do they bring u to an ATM and force u to get it out ?

Well,  unfortunately I imagine I will have real-world answers to these questions soon enough.  If/when it happens I will post my account of events here.

At 'deportation process' PSB contact your Embassy, which chip in for your return.

When you're home, you must repay it back to your Gov. That was some 20Y ago in EU. I'm certain, it's not different today.

The question is where would the Chinese police take you too if you didn't have the money to buy a plane ticket?

There's at least one advantage to strict border controls and visa policies: deportation cases must not happen very often, and probably even less cases where the deported doesn't have the funds to be tossed away to the nearest checkpoint.

Nope. You can't leave China if you owe them money.

See here:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-23840434

Normally, if you don't have funds, your home country's consul will arrange for a relative or friend to pay the airfare. In exceptional cases the consular service will pay. But the budget for this is very small.

An easy cop out is for Government to pass the buck to the carrier who brought you here. If, for example, you arrive here on a BA flight but are refused entry, it's up to BA to get you home.

It's not really fair to expect the taxpayer to pay is it?

Here's a tough question, I have met people here that have burned their passports and have no wish to leave China. You'd have to wonder what happens to them or people who right out refuse to give information..

If they decide to deport you they ask you to pay fine and tickets.

if you don't have money ,they inform your embassy and put you in Jail for 15 days.

Within these days if embassy don't care ,you can fly freely to your home country.

This happened to some Indians so I know this.

Yes, you have to pay for your ticket. Happened to a friend. Although not sure what would have happened if he couldn't afford it. He just moved the flight he had home to the day they wanted him to fly.

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
