Q: If you had $100,000USD to invest in China, what would you select?

Yes, you must invest it in some way within China. Would it be a bar, auto repair shop, or ???  I am looking for a sure fire investment that does not require me to take on a Chinese partner - I already have one - my wife!

Find yourself a Belgian based chocolate company that wants to develop the Chinese market and joint venture. You open an import office in a pretty affluent neighbourhood in one of the eastern cities. Set yourself up with a sound website, good marketing facilities then seek the clients. Amongst the 1.4 billion or so that live here, there is a fair proportion that would kill for high quality confectionery - that I guarantee!

Scandinavian:

I agree amongst 1.4 billion there must be a couple of chocolate eaters. A chocolate shop I would doubt would work in real life. It would cater to the wealthier people so you would need an upscale location which would drain your money.

You would need to find a person who has a track record of effective online marketing in China, just registering a shop on Taobao and sit back will not get you the volume you need.

Maybe replace Belgium with Swiss, no offense to Belgium but as far as I can tell the Swiss have a better reputation here. Maybe both, and make it a high quality chocolate empire.

I would open a company that goes and verifies if Chinese companies are real or fabricated. I wonder how many people who buy on alibaba.com and made-in-china.com, find out the hard way?

bill8899:

Hahahahahahaha No wait a minute, that's a good idea.

Are there ANY reliable companies on Alibaba?

By 'reliable' I mean 'does not keep your money and send you nothing then change their company name so they can do it again.'

Wait, that sounds harsh.

Are ALL Alibaba companies a front for thieves?

I have that and I'm not investing here. I won't buy a house here either. 100,000 dollars won't get you a home in the big city but it will get you one in the country side. I just work here that's it not investing much but my time.

Investing in China is the riskiest investment ever. Even if You have too spend in different sectors rather then all money into one.

High investment for low, risky returns? China is the worst country to invest in these days.
