Q: if you have been here 3 plus years

have you bought anything, anything, that has lasted a couple years and performed adequately.

I am thinking electrical, power tools, or kitchen stuff.

how about clothing....  1 season and done?

e-bike?

furniture?

plumbing?

I know I have had my issues with a lot of stuff. you do not always get what you pay for, must be cautious.

I bought my cheap Lifan 320 Mini copy car 4.5 years ago for 45k. Wasn't sure how well it would last. 4.5 years later it's now done 90,000km and still running well. Maintenance has been reasonable and it's never broken down on me. I know it won't last forever but am happily surprised how well it's still running.

Yes! 1l tea kettle in stainless-steel colour in Wan Chai.

Nice, rustic looking with cover and compartment for tea (net) inserted inside the kettle for some HK$400.

I am adding boiling water and fresh tea here and there....

I am using it longer than 3-years, and it's still without any rusting marks. It must be 'German Rostfrei', what is one of the reasons I didn't purchase it on the Mainland.

Otherwise, I save purchases of long lasting&authentic items as toaster, goose feather pillow, leather shoes, olive oil, booze ..... for EU.

Spiderboenz:

Don't buy things like that at Walmart. Look in the small side shops.

our "pancake" maker for 99 RMB is already 2 years and still good. My 30 RMB shoes I also bought 3 years ago.

But to be fair it is a hit and miss. Can be good can be bad be it cheap or expensive

Bought some crossfit shoes - brand '361' -  4 years ago and use them daily. They have held up well. Also bought some 'Joe One' jeans at same time and they also are still great. I am usually careful what I buy, pay a little more and always ask my Chinese friends for help and info.

I bought a Honda 125 CBR (anything higher is illegal apparently) and it is still running pretty good at the time I left China. It lasted three years and is sitting in storage currently.

Some good coats... but that's pretty much it... everything else kind of turned into junk pretty fast.

In Canada, I bought a Cadillac SRX and it was great but had some trouble with the battery (short circuit) and something else.

Just the luck of the draw... but in China you are more likely to draw badly

I've lived in the same place for 5 years. The fridge that was here when I moved in still works well enough.

And the oven I bought way back is still fine (although, that doesn't get used very often).

The electric water heater still works as per usual, although I did have to have the fuse replaced early on, and recently the pipes had a serious problem requiring replacement - but that wasn't the heater itself.
