Q: If you sign a contract are you stuck.

Are you able to change you mind in your home country before starting your position. I know there are penalties on e both people sign the contract and you start working. Just wondering if I can decline if I get a better position.

If you refer to a job contract you've signed with a Chinese company whilst you are still in your home country, you can be assured that if you break or ignore it, nothing will happen to you. Contracts in China are worth their weight in the toilet paper they are printed on.

The Chinese breach and break contracts all the time without blinking an eye when it is to their benefit to do so. They capitalize on the naivety and good faith of the foreigner who tends to have a bit more respect for a contract due to their, well, faith in others.

That said, if you want to break the contract, just rip it in two. And if you want to find a better position - are you a teacher, by any chance? -, try one of the Stans. Money is far better than in China these days and you run less of a risk of being ripped off, harassed, abused, exploited, fired or deported without notice just because you decided to honor a contract. Remember this: there is very little honor in China when it comes to money.

Anything can be bought, sold or discontinued in China. Including you.

Shining_brow:

Red_Fox... can you give me some info on what you mean by the Stans are better for jobs, pay etc then China? (no, I don't mean "What's a "stan", I mean details you've seen somewhere...)

If your Company started Z visa process, and applied for your Working permit (with signed Contract), you could expect some 'down-fall'. I don't know what kind of  ('down....), but it seems logical.

If any otherwise, follow 'Red's'........

yeah, going back to EU tomorrow, buTT....it's winter, too early for catnips.

My pic loved some 'green leaves plant'. I don't know the name. We had to grow plant indoors, and cat would go and munch on it every few days. An hour later, she puked 'her own hair mixed with chewed green plant'. Plant was like ''HER natural 'puking' remedy''.

Yes it is for teaching contract.

icnif77:

It depends how long is since you signed Contract.

As soon as School has your signature, they apply for WP at SAFEA. I'm guessing, if School applied for your WP, then you could expect some troubles at your 2nd WP application.

Biggest Q I have is 'how Chinese SAFEA is connected through database'.

On the other hand, when you enter China with Z, there is a pic taking, what tells me 'there must be database connection in China'.
