Q: If your Chinese coworker is getting married, how much money should you give as a gift?
I gave like 500 RMB, though all my colleagues gave 200 minimum.
Ideally make sure the amount ends in a two 8s, eg: 588, as 8 is lucky in Chinese.

I'm sure it varies from place to place, company to company, but my company has a soft "rule" for giving at co-workers' weddings. Generally most people will just give 200 rmb. Of course it's different for weddings of friends and family. You'd probably want to give a bit more, and use the lucky numbers as mentioned by xunliang (666, 888, etc...).

Never gave any 1kuai to my coworkers for wedding. I always know about it, when it is finish and they come up with small chocolate pack and send to everyone. thats all . I am feeding family, they do not give me nothing, Why I should support all 300 people in the office for wedding ? :D
Unless you're invited to the wedding reception / party nothing.
If you are (invited to the party) 100 is normal unless you are in a first tier city where everything is more expensive.

even for Chinese 200 kuai is minimum, 300 is ok, 400 avoided, then 500 600 , 800 1K…… as said above you can also add 88 to them

I've been to 9 weddings (8 family 1 friend) in my 2 1/2 years here in Nanning 100 is normal for friends and 200 for family. btw My wife decided what sum is appropriate and she is Nanning born and bred.

It differs with places,just as salaries.But 200 is enough for most places in this country if the coworker is not a close friend.

less than 200 is indeed not decent enough in most east cities.So,most Chinese offer 200,no less,no more.
