it is possible - if you find a company willing to hire you.

OR

if you are deemed to have sufficient net worth (that is you are loaded) and have guanxi

Since, there is a law on Chinese books, Working visa in China is limited to 60-years old laowai, I'd assume there are not too many posters at yer age here.

It would be the best for you to try and get legal employment by yourself as Sorrel above suggested ... and then tell us all about.

Good lucky!

Also, there are plentiful of answers on your Q ... over the web.

As a teacher?  Not a chance.  If you have heavy qualifications and experience to back it up in a priority sector then yes, you can get a job.

Yes it is possible. I knew an American who was 71 and got a visa in Guangzhou. The application is usually rejected the first time but it can be resubmitted with and explanation to justify your employment. Problem is mostemployers would not even accept an application to teach when you apply for a job so it doesnt get to the next stage.

I used to know a guy around the same age as you, he worked at a university a couple days per week.

Though at this age I would hope to be married to a Chinese girl and retire in China. Possibly recieve a pension from your home country.

It is possible but not for the reasons mentioned. It is only possible if you meet the standards for cateogry A work permit or if you hold a Chinese Green Card. It may be possible that the school is able to help once or twice over the age of 60, but that is not a guarantee. With the computer system for work permit and residence permit applications these days the idea of "guanxi" is becoming a harder thing to do in practice.

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
