Q: I'm curious about the names of the children from inter-racial marriages

Hi,

I was just wondering for those western guys that married Chinese wives and with children, how did you name your kids?

Do they have English first names? what about last names? if they took your last names, then how did you get them registered in China?

Thanks

I have no idea about others, but in my case, my daughter has and it shows in her passport, a western name and my surname.  Even if not registered in China (not a Chinese citizen), here she is known nby her first western name, which is very easy to pronounce, and her mother's last name, since mine is very difficult to pronounce.  I do make sure that all school records shows her name as it is shown on her USA passport.

I have never heard about children happening in inter-racial marriages. Typically those who marry another race like a horse or a grand piano never actually succeed in reproduce.

Oh. You meant mixed-culture marriages... ahhh, silly me. Maybe stop thinking about race, there is only one.

It's not quite relevant yet, but I think our children will have a first name that "works in both places" and then have both our family names. I don't care if the public registry cannot handle a complicated name, In my culture the norm would be to have the fathers last name (the mother would have that too from getting married) but our children should have part of both cultures.

I too hate the race ignorance, so thanks for pointing it out.

I dunno, I once got a little frisky with a Grand Piano, and now it's asking for child support...

English: kid's name + my surname

Chinese: kid's Chinese name + her surname.

The Chinese name is for the benefit of her family, etc.

I have no kids yet, but we already discussed how to do.

We will find a first name that works both places then we will add her surname as a middle name and my surname as the "real" surname.

For the Chinese name we will only use her surname.

My daughter (6 months) has an English first name, her middle name is the same as my mother's name and she has my family name. My wife is ok with all that.

I don't know what her Chinese name is.

My daughter has two names.  Her Chinese name with wife's family name and her English name with my family name.  I rarely use her English name. This is China.

We are having our first and have already decided that I get to give the child an English name with my surname and my wife will give a Chinese name with her family name.

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
