Yeah, the course is taught by all Chinese teachers, and the course was also written by Chinese people. You can see where that's going. Did I do the right thing by laughing and declining the job? Ah, puck it. Time to go home rather than waste my time with this complicated Z situation/trash country.

Only one reason I know of and that's poor management. You did the right thing in declining their offer since number one you already had a TEFL certificate and two it's taught and written by chinese which I have really have no reason why they would put you through that unless it was poor management and that's what it seems like to me.
The only thing I think you may have done wrong was laughing because they wouldn't have understood it anyways....maybe you could have done something else instead like yelled at them in their face!

No, he did the right thing to laugh. It showed his contempt. Had he resorted to yelling in their faces, he would have lost face.
Now, while most of us dont care for "face" most of the time, the sad reality is that we cannot ignore it either, as it does have a very direct effect on our daily lives. The trick is to pick and choose our battles.
In this case, Hulk chose the right one.
But, that is just my humble opinion, which may or not be shared by others in this forum.
Hulk:
I agree with you, Guilin. I didn't get upset, I just thought it was hilarious and declined. The company who wanted to hire me is pretty desperate to take me in, but they aren't able to get past this government requirement. They lamented about that...
