Q: I'm off to work now and, given it's almost 3pm, that got me thinking..
The question; How many hours per week do you spend at work?
And the follow up question; How many of those hours do you spend actually working?
For me, the answer is...not many!
Which means I'll be home tonight in time for the Richmond/Sydney game from the MCG.
Big pity is that web sites that allow me to listen to it are currently blocked here in my neck of the woods.
Have to settle for reading live score updates and written commentary which, in the 21st Century, is pretty pathetic.
Got cold beer in the fridge though, so it's not the end of the world.
When I start work next week (picked up my Z visa today. Did not expect to get it so fast) I will spend 40 hours per week at work, 20 "actually" working. It will keep me too distracted to have to worry about any self destructive behavior (I go to a dark place when I have too much free time) and will force me to have to interact with people.
Warning - thinking never led to anything good 
outside of class time i would average about 5 hours preparation time per week:
researching interesting/challenging topics
preparing materials make the class more interactive
looking at current events
other than that, my time was my own
Now, i am almost finished marking the final presentations of my students
for my current students, i found good preparation was essential to keep them focused on class participation.

I do 45 hours/week in my office. My work is mostly research, so I spend half that time watching the roof while listening to music (my own version of lateral thinking) sketching doodles, or reading articles. The other half of time is spent coding, debugging my code, writing documentation.
It is at times like this i wish I was a TEFL teacher.........contracted hours are 40/week, 9am-6pm monday to friday. Last 6 months we've been under-resourced and too many projects. So currently working 9am-7.30pm mon-thurs, normal hours friday and 5-6 hours saturday.....
Seems to be getting more typical when working for a manufacturing company that is owned by a bunch of (w)bankers! Currently looking for a new job in Engineering.
Salary is pretty good so not all bad news....just no bloody time to spend it!
I basically work when I want... which is usually about 30-40 hours per week but I usually delegate to others now. Delegation is wonderful!
50-60 hours a week, but it depends very much on the days. If it's office days, morning can be easy going while waiting my colleagues to get to work in the other continent. But I very often travel to suppliers and several hours of driving and/or flying add up. I often have colleagues coming for projects too, an those days are usually endless....
Never been working the regular 40 hours/week in my whole life anyway....
40 hours a week, i worked it so I just have to come in when I want as long as I am there and do the work. My work involves others but marketing/copywriting doesn't start and stop on a schedule, so my manager is happy as long as I am not backing up people. I was asked to work 6 days a week, so I just requested that I have a relaxed schedule. Its actually more efficient in getting better work done.
I get paid for actually (pretending*) to work - ie, for actual classes... not just having to sit in the office (while doing prep-work etc). So, for the last couple of weeks, while I've been in the office working (doing all the double-marking for the international partners) I've been racking up a ton of pay! 
Otherwise, I do only 6 hours of work (actual pretend teaching) per week.
*They pretend to learn and study, so it's fair! The copy/paste should have given so many outright 0's, that only half of them should be going to OS universities!!! But, it just downgrades them on one scoring criteria out of 4 or 5 :(
