Does anyone here have any experience importing vehicles accessories into china from Europe? This would include stuff like tuning components, wheels and bodykits? Initially for personal use so would just use a forwarder like UPS, apart from those freight charges, what kind of taxes and charges would I be looking at?

I do know that body kits (2 years ago) were rated at 25 % + 17 % VAT. And that was for a complete car kit. Importing car accessories from Europe will be taxed, but the amount will depend on what category you are placed, and the country from which the parts come from.
The tax rate varies, if you have them shipped to Hangzhou, Tianjin or Shenzhen, expect a heavier tax, the rate is dependent on what car you are going to use it for and the total value as the customs officers will see it. Ship it into Beijing can save you some tax money but as for some advice, you can find almost all the kits for cars in China from a legitimate dealer. If you tell me what car, I can tell you were to go. I work with a lot of Chinese Dealerships that import in high quantities and have pull with the customs officers, this will both expedite what you need and save you money and trouble. If you are trying to import more than personal use, you will require an import license or have connections with an import agency
Thanks for the answer, yes i think you are right. After some investigation of prices involved with buying from a local tuning shop and importing myself, the saving is rather negligible. and the hassle seems alot, these guys i have found seem to have a bit of pull since they seem to order big quantities of stuff and have no problem getting it pretty fast....i just hope it is real..
