Q: The inevitable has happened

I'm getting sick and tired of looking in the mirror and seeing less and less hair. I want to say the hell with it and shave it all off.  But, I'm working in China and appearances matter in my daily interactions with Mommy and Daddy's little prince and princesses. What do you think would happen if one morning I showed up for work clean shaven all the way to the top of my head? Your thoughts please.

I'm balding, and like you, I prefer a clean shave and go full bald, Patrick Stewart style. I do that regularly. Nobody ever gave a single fuck. Bald is beautiful.

hmmm, I would have thought of you as more of a Jean Luc Picard type !

Shave it off and grow a beard to even things out.

Just do it. You'll get the inevitable first day pointing, comments and probably a few laughs from your students and maybe local staff too, then... nothing. Nobody will care.

If someone did have an issue just say you caught head lice from the students for the third time and enough is enough.

Do what you consider to be the best for yourself and stop living according to others people's opinion. Most people in China don't have enough guts or personality to dare standing out of the crowd, to have their own style, to be themselves, so yes they will laugh at/point to whoever is different in order to compensate for their own failure. If tomorrow I want to dye my hair in purple or green because I think it's cool I will do it and I won't give a damn what local peasants or my coworkers with their boring lifes and bland copy/paste self are thinking.

I don't get your anxiety, there are plenty of bald people here who shave their heads. You do a big change people might remark the first day but it's not like you'd be standing out as some kind of lunatic.

I don't see it happening anytime soon but If I started to see any significant loss i'd go close cropped in a heartbeat.

Nobody looks like more of a buffoon than somebody trying to cover up hair loss

This is China, if you go full bald you will be looked down upon. You must shave only the top of your head. A full cul-de-sac or a skullet if you will. Bonus points with the ladies if you grow it as long as possible in the back

do it on a day you feel good about yourself, and you'll laugh off the petty remarks. if i ever fall flat on my ass, i always have a cheek to cheek smile as defense mechanism. bullies thrive on embarassment and self-consciousness, so don't show any. be on top of the world, and chinese will respect your facade, and new face

I had a mate who was balding and he decided to go for a £9000 (14000 dollar) hair transplant procedure in the uk. I think it was worth every penny. He looks way better.

expatlife26:

Really?

my best friend started going bald when we were 18, he looked into those transplant things and thought it was a terrible idea.

Like you can move hair to the front, but then when more falls out you look like a total idiot and now you can't just buzz your head and look normal cause of scarring.

He can worry about that when he gets to 60. Right now he is 30 with a full head of hair. He told me the transplanted hair makes the other hair around itmore resistant. More expensive technique does not leave scarring. Less expensive you cannot shave your head but even short hair covers scar. Its win win
