I would like to know about any rules for International Marriage..!
If there is any differences than same nationality marriage and Chinese-Foreigner court marriage ?
Anyone has Idea about getting Single Status Certificate easily either from your country or from Embassy in China ?
10 years 1 week ago in Visa & Legalities - China
Every country is different. Im canadian so can only speak for that but perhaps there will be some similarities.
Getting the singles paper is easy. Book an appointment and bring your passport and take an oath that your not married.
Once your married , for canadians anyways, you do not need to go back and tell the consulate. If your married in China your automatically married in Canada too.
Congrats

Court marraige? Did you mean the marraige without the consent of guardians of a girl/boy go to court and get married? If it is the case, could be a dreadful event as a foreigner untill you got bucks to cover up.
If you are REALLY single than there is no problem in getting the martial status certificate stating you are unmarried but if you are already married, you will it even then. The only difference will be 'Unmarried' changed in to 'Married'....
Best of luck....
By the way, your love story seems quite imaginative and a good Indian movie can be written over that if successful...

Marriage certificates of many countries may be recognized in China but I've never heard of an international marriage certificate. There are international driving licenses and some other types of certificates. So what does an international marriage certificate allow one to do? A license to marry anyone, anywhere in the world?
I second the Canadian. Interesting fact about USA. If your gf has a taxpayer identification number or SSN, then simply filing taxes under married filing jointly automatically marries you in the USA. Not joking, it's the law. If you say you're married and you both confess it to a gov't agency or judge, then legally you are married. I was a tax examiner back home.
jatin143:
gf has taxpayer number - You mean gf come from which country?
I just want to ask as my one of friend is having American bf.
WCG:
It's US law. If you and you gf/bf willingly claim (confess) you are married by submitting a signed tax return together, (you both need to have an ITIN or SSN), then the US gov't recognizes this as a common law marriage. Yes, it does apply to non-citizens. But, the keyword is "willingly". Now, there are some remedies if it was done by mistake. Which, did happen to several taxpayers. Usually, filing an amended return (1040x) along with a letter can fix it, unless your spouse disputes it. Then it goes to a tax court, and (I'm not sure because I'm not a lawyer) the tax court will ask your spouse to prove the marriage is legitimate. Another option is in the case of fraud, identity theft or forgery (usually all are congruent). Sometimes, this happened out of malice. Each person receives a semi-nasty letter from the bureau demanding certain documentation and usually a tax bill, or the threat of fines and imprisonment are real, because it's tax fraud and the bureau doesn't like to be taken lightly. So, in short, if there's no dispute between the two parties, then the marriage stands, but if one party argues they are not married, then the tax court is one of several courts you will need to answer to. Sometimes, it will result in tax fraud, identity theft, forgery, etc. If you're asking because you know someone who wants to attempt this method of marriage, then just be aware of the penalties in the case that both parties don't agree about being married. I can see some stupid Chinese woman attempting to establish a marriage with her boyfriend without his consent. She would most likely never be admitted into the USA. All he would need to do to clear his name is file a police report, and submit a 1040x to the bureau. If either party has already submitted a tax return to the bureau on their own behalf, then they would simply receive a letter stating a duplicate return was filed and they need to submit an amended return in order to clear up the problem. Then, that person could file suit in the appropriate court for the above mentioned if they wanted to I'm guessing. So, I wouldn't attempt to claim you're married that way unless your bf/gf agrees. I can feel the wheels turning in your brain, but hey go ahead if you don't mind the FBI on your ass, in addition to the NSA because they might see it as an attempt to gain entry into the USA to commit an act of terrorism! Good luck to your friend.
Curious - what if your marriage is legal in one part of the world, but not in another?? eg, polygamy, under-age, or same-sex marriages...
ScotsAlan:
It happened with the rock singer Jerry Lee Lewis.
He married a 13 year old cousin in some southern US state. He turned up in London with her and would have been arrested if he shared a hotel room with her.
Or it was something like that anyway.
If you get an international marriage certificate(the one louis has reffered to) please let me know. I need one to marry Chelsea Clinton .
ambivalentmace:
chelsea, all i can say is my condolences for your loss of singlehood and your vision of course.
thefidu881:
My vision? there is some problem with my vision, I read your username as Ambulance... ;) I have no regrets over that loss... cheers
Slow down, 2 weeks ago you were asking Chinese girl with foreign man, Now you're preparing for marriage when you don't have any girl friends. This is a different culture, you should really have a long engagment period then worry about how to get married, but first you must find a girl friend. Good luck. Are we all invited to the wedding?
TedDBayer:
You should get a Game Show host to perform the wedding, I can see it now,,,,,,:ChenChen do you take Jatin ,,,ooorrr will you take this brand NEW CAR. Yes this is a 2014.........
Shining_brow:
Pretty crappy game-show., which the producers would never be able to afford....after the 20th "I'll take the car" (and, not even the "thanks" at the end).
jatin143:
TedDBayer : Asking for information for knowledge or discussion and Saying about personal story is huge different.
May be you didn't get my point when I asked both of questions, try to put me out of focus and then look my question.
I haven't mention "myself/my/I" in any questions.
You can get your marriage license from your country's Consulate. Then they translate it into Chinese, and it is then called a " Certificate of no impediment".
I got a UK marriage license in the UK. I just had to visit my local registrar, she asked some questions, asked to see some papers and wrote down the details of the bride, location and time of wedding etc. One month later I went back and she gave me the wedding license.
Then to China, UK consulate converted it t to the afore mentioned " Certificate of no impediment"
Hey ho, off we went and got married.
When I got back to the UK I visited the registrar again with the Chinese wedding book and asked if I had to register it with her. Nope, no need she said. " If your married, your married. No matter where you do it"
I think marriage is pretty much a self managed sort of thing. It's up to the individual to keep tabs on making sure they get divorced before they remarry etc.
Contrary to popular belief, Governments are really too busy to keep tabs on every thing an individual does with their life.
sorrel:
i would disagree about governments not being interested in marriages:
marriages between EU members and non-EU members are scrutinized more closely as this is a common scam to get passports: certainly in my home country
mike695ca:
@sorrel , I would say that marriages are only more scrutinized when its time to get said wife ( or husband) a passport or visa. You could say its the visa that is heavily scrutinized, not the marriage.
Sinobear:
I would scrutinize the "your" "you're" part. Grammar, mon càirdean. Governments may be too busy, but the Grammar Patrol Ain't
ScotsAlan:
I still stand by my comment of Government not being bothered about who you marry. The OP was asking about marriage, not immigration or tax laws.
Of course Governments care about they they give visas to. But one should not assume that a visa application will immediately follow a wedding on foreign soil.
My wife has been to the UK many times before we married, and yes it was a pain applying for the tourist visa. But getting the wedding license: no problem. No need to prove ones relationship, no questions on where will the matrimonial home be. Different Government departments dealing with different things.
ScotsAlan:
@ Sinobear: Hey!! Stop nit picking my Chinglish.
You will have Englteacher on my back again, accusing me of being a mouthpiece .
I looked at Chinese-Foreigner court marriage and for a big enough fee the Chinese court will grant you a document that says any Chinese woman of your choice must marry you. You have to serve the document to her in front of witnesses and tell her that she has to marry you. If she accepts, you will be married. If she hits you you will be divorced. I doubt she will laugh, Chinese women are't known for their sense of humour.
