I'm personally done with being polite. If you're trying to walk through me or are simply expecting me to move out of your way, don't be shocked when you walk into a wall.
Seriously, in a city the size of Beijing, it would seem that people would have adapted a little better to living in a city of this size and would have learned skills like waiting for others to get off the train before getting on, waiting in line, or respectfully moving out of someone's way instead of expecting me to move out of your way?
I know, I'm a "Westerner" but I'm also bigger, taller, and stronger than most people here.
That would require a previously thought system and organization. No such institution has evolved enough to formulate plans as on how to be more efficient. Here is China when you catch a train the train is there how you get on or off has nothing to do with anyone.
Logic is a five letter word that we don't use around here. If you think too long on all these little issues of not using any logic, you will want bite the back of your own skull (and where's the logic in that?).
If you are lucky enough to be at the front of door with a few other like minded locals(there is a few around who have logic) or expats just hold your ground and let others get off as best you can. It really pisses some off but I think they get the message. Ive even physically help people back at the front of bus queues by putting my arms out. Sometimes this suceeds by holding them back but on other occasions you have to make the call that the surge is irresistable and just go with the flow.
you are expecting too much thinking is not allowed. reason and logic are banned everyone must behave like a pack of lobotomized animals
Romper stomper... I goes crazy town! I nails them good and hard, it makes me smile... Hell when I go back home I may treat Asians in general like shit (but even worse if I find out they're from the Chinese mainland) and take advantage of them just to repay my 6 years of bliss here... Point at them, stare at them, point at them and laugh like a school girl and have other folks join me in making our Asian friends feel welcome to MY community... Oh I will work so hard... So hard... When they talk English, take the piss have a laugh, invite other folks to come over and make fun of their shit pigeon English, I'm going to have me some fun, I'm going to have me some fun... And if the Asian happens to be married to a westerner, and her hubby gets all emotional I'll throw down with him... When I go home I'm paying back the favor in spades, they all is going to pay... ( I was the most PC person alive prior to China... Think about that) I guess I'm going to bring home some Chinese culture, it must have rubbed off on me....
Localla:
you are a fckin moron. do you know it back home?fckin foreigner loser scams
Trains and buses. Every man for himself. Let's not talk about elevators either!! I live on the 15th floor here and elevator trauma is - a - comin'!! The unbelievable stupidity and rudeness of people pushing to get on the elevator when others are still getting off defies logic (there's that word again!). And taking my bike downstairs? I just shove the wheel into whoever is standing nearest the door hustling to get on. I turn the bike sideways and allow NOBODY on until I am off. Funnily enough nobody even cares I do that?? I've stopped caring as well.
I feel your pain..
In a big city like Beijing, people comes and go. Most of time, those bad apples you run into are from 2nd or 3nd or samll town where things are still need to be improved in many ways. However I think most of Beijing residents are adapt to get in line, etc big city's good manners nowadays.
Don't be unpolite in the future, the more you are polite, the more others will return/learn your politeness. Just be patient.
