Q: Is it in any way possible to bake without an oven?

Okay, I know it's a long shot, but worth a try...

what you want to bake, you can bake a cake in rice boiler i have done it just for fun and passing my time.

MissA:

Really? I'd never have thought of that. Thanks!
At home, a good de-stresser for me was to bake cakes/muffins etc (useless, sugary things which took forever to clean up after) but obviously, the kitchens are configured differently here so I've fallen out of the habit. It would be nice to find alternatives... but if I can cook the same things in a different way, that would be great!

best of luck for doing it but what exactly you want to cook, the rice boiler serve like oven and some extent as pressure cooker as well. its a good electric item over here. the cake i cooked was not some remarkable but though it was fine.

MissA:

Cool, I don't need it to be remarkable: I'm just as interested in the process as the outcome to be honest :) Kicking everyone out of the kitchen and spending an hour playing with chocolate, eggs, sugar and other good stuff with music blaring was, as I said above, always one of my favourite way to relax and de-stress. But it seems stupid to mix up a batter with no intention of baking it!

It will be steamed cake/bread. You can find recipes online. I always wanted to try it at home, but never got around to it.

If you have a gas burner , you could cover it, maybe even with tinfoil, but something metal to hold the heat in should work, like baking on a gas barbeque

Many, many years ago, my mother had no oven at our home.  And I recall she had a metal casserole, maybe 18 inches in diameter and about 10 to 12 inches high, and she would use it to bake meat inside it, placing it over a low fire heat and cooking slowly.  She had some type of tomato sauce with onions, green pepper, garlic etc on bottom to add flavor and prevent sticking.  Maybe with a little experimentation you could duplicate that.  Sorry I can not be of more help, I was under 10 at the time.

Yes. any solid cast iron casserole dish with a sturdy lid will double as an oven. They are even refereed to as Dutch Ovens and can be used for cakes, dampers, roasts etc
