Q: Is it common for an American guy to praise a woman's wearing when they just met?

I was in the fair yesterday and met some Americans by random and started having casual chats while we were sitting in the resting area.

One of the guys just keep telling my shoes are nice and he likes my shoes. I'm confused by the signal that he was sending. I wonder if it is normal for he to say those since we just met? I'm a woman and he's a man. Or is he trying to hint that I'm attractive?

He was complimenting your shoes?    He was saying that he likes your shoes.

Every man that knows how to flirt compliments your shoes, of course he was hitting on you. Although, many Chinese women do need some fashion training on matching colors, I very seldom see a lady who knows when you dress formally that your purse should match the color of your shoes.

It is very common in my country for a man to compliment a women's shoes if he finds her attractive. If the women finds the man attractive she doesn't hit him with her shoe. Shoes and women are complicated in my culture.

Viki is angry at me,,, with good reason,,, anyway,, I just can't help but weighing in here....  The 'effeminatisation' of men.  I just sit around and try to imagine John Wayne or Bogart telling a girl she has nice shoes, or a nice purse.  Sounds a bit more like the way Bieber would flirt on a girl.

"Those are such darling shoes!  Are they Louise Vouitton?  They simply look the Dream!'

ok,, haha, I'm being an ass,,, if that's how u flirt, then so be it.

Anyway,, what was Viki's question,,, Is it normal for a guy, American guy, to compliment a girls shoes.  Honestly, I dunno.  But wouldn't surprise me if it's normal these days.

diverdude1:

hey,,, should I have used a possesive apostrophe on 'girls shoes'?  I'm thinking maybe I should have.  but I'm not sure.

I can think of three reasons he would compliment her shoes: 1. He is a podophiliac. 2. He's a stark raving queen. 3. He is totally clueless and is using a certain-to-score pickup line he found on www.forever_alone.loser.org.

Dear Vicky, perhaps you should have taken control of the situation.

A:You can still skin into China as a non-English native teacher by holding English Teaching license in your home country.2nd: Your BA degree should be completed in a native English country. Once, you fulfilled these 'parameters', you qualify for an English teaching job in China as a non-native English sneaker with Z - Entry/working visa with Working and Residence permit later on. See the last 'Answers Highlight' ---> there is a web link posted about 'requirements for teaching English language in China as a non-English native passport holder'. https://www.gooverseas.com/blog/guide-teaching-english-china#paragraph-item-63614-target

*English proficiency: Passport from one of seven "native speaker" countries (US, UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, and South Africa). If you aren’t a native speaker, you’ll need to be a certified teacher in your home country with proof of your English proficiency (e.g. IELTS or TOEFL). I'd say, Chinese will choose and look especially for a native English speaker at teaching of English Literature job openings. Posted job adverts for English Literature teaching are most likely from International Schools in China. Good luck! -- icnif77
