Q: Is it a curse to be a tall woman in China?

Why does everyone here want to be the same height? I hear sooo many girls complaining here, either because they're too small or, more commonly, too tall.

Think about it: when was the last time you saw a Chinese girl holding hands with a man shorter than her?

Maybe you have not seen my GF and me.  She is 173 cms tall, and still all of her shoes and boots have high heel.  So, with my almost 180 cms of height, I am many times less than an inch smaller than her when we walk side by side holding hands.

And she also gets many compliments from total strangers because of her height and beauty (She is 34-20-33).  It is my impression that Chinese men do like tall Ladies, but honestly do not know about the short ones.  And from comments heard from Chinese females, they all seem to envy real tall girls.   But maybe that is only in my limited environment.

As for me, I dont have any problem with tall girls. However, most will not go out with guys who are shorter than they are.

The only two times I dated a girl taller than me: One was from Belgium and the other was from Kenya.

I think its worse to be too short. I usually like shorter and thin. My girl friend is the shortest I've ever had and the thinnest, but she still only 12,, kidding about the age only, try x3. I have met 2 women about 6' 8'' at home and just swooned, those legs just went on forever. Of course they get boy friends 5' 2'' about as tall as her legs.

I am nearly 200cm tall and I always get small GF (about 165cm or smaller)... Why? The tall ones don`t seem to like me, on the contrary, my best Chinese friend has model GF, always taller then him... Strange... I wanted a tall one, but how? Now I`m tired looking...  Their thinking is strange... Oh well, as long as everyone happy it`s OK.

I lived in Dalian for a while and a lot of the girls there are very tall (180+).  And all the ones I talked to said they could never date a guy who was shorter than they were when wearing 6-10cm heels.

And in general, most of the girls I talked to would not even consider a guy who was too short ( >150), even if they were shorter than them.  For me, I have dated girls from 4'11 to 6'6" and had no problems with their height.  (Though the 4'11" one had a really painful habit of biting during sex.  Ouch.)

Don't you know? It's always greener on the other side. The short girls want to be tall, the stick shaped girls want curves, and we're always complaining about it, whether we're from China, America, or any other country.

I used to think being short was a curse, but the upside is that even most of the short guys are taller than me.  A bonus for being in China is that I'm now average height for a woman. I'm only 5'2".

A:I'll give my two cents on the age part. It's not as easy but can definitely be done. I was 21, fresh out of university and landed my first teaching job in china as a homeroom kindergarten teacher on a pretty standard 20,000/month salary. I'm 1 year in now and am still happy. Pretty much all international kindergarten jobs on here want 2 years experience, but many will still accept if you have experience in your home country. With that being said, being white and having a nice looking face is much more of a decision factor in china vs the west, if you can- use it to your advantage. Good luck finding something! -- brinsleym
