Some architect friends are asking me for advice about coming to China, but I don't know if there are opportunities for foreign architects that dont speak mandarin.
Does anyone know foreign architects working in China?

I don't know any foreign architect working in China, but your friend could just send few CV to architect job openings, and see if there is any feedback.
Maybe, architect jobs are reserved for Chinese, but you never know.
I've met 3-4 foreign architects working in Beijing. From what I remember them saying, Beijing is one of the main hubs for foreign architect firms in all of China, so it would be a good place to start. As for their language abilities, it's definitely a nice bonus, but if they can speak English, I'm guessing they'll be okay, since foreign architects are still in fairly high demand here (I think).
Next time I run into one of them, I'll get some more info and PM you.

'Comment' doesn't want to post usable web link. Two of the most famous sporting sites in China, the Water Cube and the Birds Nest, were built in collaboration with foreign architects from Switzerland and Australia, and I doubt they spoke Chinese. There are probably translators readily available

Looking at some of the building designs in China, I think architects are just given a paint brush, some water colours and a hefty dose of LSD.
