Hi all
I want to take my Chinese wife on a vacation in Hawaii. I'm American of course she's Chinese, is it easy to get a tourist visa? This is only for quick vacation, only 5 days. Surely they know we're just going there for vacation and surely the U.S Guangzhou embassy knows there is no way for us to afford or survive there over a month..
Any tips?

I just took my wife to the States for the first time for X-mas. We prepared all the documents they wanted and the interviewer didn't even look at them. He asked my wife a couple of questions and looked at our wedding pictures. I'd still prepare the requested documents, though.
One tip (apart from strictly following the rules) that helps to get a tourist visa for a Chinese citizen : bank account at her/his name filled with some money ie. 50000 RMB. The idea is that the one asking the visa should have enough to support the trip on its own, this sum seemed convincing enough in our case.

but of course they will see that the 50000 "just" came in all at once... no steady flow etc.
you have to do that 3 month in advance and she needs a steady income flow from a job otherwise they wont believe it

Doing it 6 months ahead did the trick for one country we are going to visit. Also 2 months ahead of the trip (the day of the visa application) worked out fine for Shengen visa.
Wow Hawaii sounds good during this winter season, I have never tried getting this visa for my wife as of yet, but I might try the same vacation idea. I heard a rumor, maybe it's bogus but I heard if your spouse already had a U.S tourist visa than it might effect her chances of getting a CR-1 someday. Like I said it was just a rumor..
took the wife to hawaii for august this past summer, but she had travelled to canada many times and finished university at prince edward island. in addition to money, it looks good if she has travelled to other countries and returned on time with the stamps on the passport.
I checked www.skyscanner.com for fun, wow only Y5,800 from Hong Kong to Hawaii round trip, one person.. This idea is looking good, i'll steal it..

you can book waikaki sand villa online for about 80 to 100 dollars a night depending on time of the year, only 4 blocks from the beach, great location, free breakfast.
public buses for 2.50 one way to anywhere on the island. bus 20 takes you to the only walmart. a 4 day unlimited pass on the bus is 25 dollars.
To go to Hawaii is just like going to the mainland USA, since it is one of the states.
Therefore, follow the rules to get a tourist visa... it is not complicated.
