Q: Is it getting harder for Foreigners to get (non-student) visas for China?
I have been hearing a lot of "first hand" stories of the government cracking down recently on foreigners working illegally/pseudo illegally in China (at least in Beijing), not to mention that even business visas are apparently not as easy to get anymore...
Does anybody know what the actual law is at this point? It seems to be changing every week...
Has anyone you know been denied a business or work visa recently?

You really have to just rely on the local PSB, tell the truth when you apply and conform to the laws. Don't listen to rumour because most of it is is just.. rumour
Any country you get a visa to applies the same rules...if you break them then you go home!
My advice is look after your own affairs through the proper channels and you won't have a problem!
I had a problem like this when I applied for a job in Nanjing. Just when they said they were going to start the paperwork for my visa on their end, they said I couldn't have the job because I didn't have 2 years of experience. I had told them I didn't have it, I never lied to them. I guess before this year they didn't have any trouble. As far as I know, that was just for Jiangsu province. I got a job in Zhejiang province without a problem. Of course, I think they were also trying to pull one over on me. After the first offer fell through, the agent for Nanjing offered a job on two F visas. I told her I wanted a Z visa, so I looked elsewhere.
As far as I know, for teaching on a work visa, you're supposed to have at least a bachelor's degree and 2 years of experience. A lot of places will let the experience slide, if you have a TEFL certificate. If a place is really desperate, or they don't care, they'll take someone even if they don't have the bachelor's degree, but I would never trust them.
I think it depends on the place. The "rules" vary between provinces, cities, and even companies, depending on their connections. If it doesn't work out at one place, try somewhere else. What else can you do? Like Alex66 said, don't try doing anything illegal. Maybe you won't get caught, but if you do, they won't be on your side.
I was told it would take 10 business days to get my Z visa. That was about a 1 1/2 months ago.
Trying to get a 12 month multiple entry business visa is damn near impossible here. But I keep trying!!
