It should be easier. At that age you should have 3 X the amount of knowledge that anyone in there 20's would have.

Ted, I was thinking about this and you. Most of the schools want women under 55 and men under 60. I think it's a Chinese law, but not positive. Of course, there are those that work around the law.

PS.. Michael Thomas knows not of what he spouts. I wonder if he knows what douche bag means.

The main problem is insurance related. After60 insurance rates for employees goes up, which is why many schools are reluctant to pay the higher cost.  I have heard of some teachers over 60 that did work, but they made it clear from the get go that they had their own insurance.
Best of luck buddy!

it is tough to find work but not impossible. try this, get qq international . there is a feature that allows you to search for new random friends in a certain area.  look for people between 18 -20 preferably girls becoz there english would be better. look for those with some sort of english in their tag or name. your goal will be to make contacts. you need them to help you find the website that lists all the unis in china (they use it to search for schools to attend) . it is in chinese , so maybe in exchange for you helping them to practice english they could help you use that website to contact schools directly. but you will not find many people hiring now except shady schools. begining of march and june july august are the hot hiring times. you may seriously have to consider working in a dump for a year

Guilin Raf is correct, the problem is health insurance.  Once you are 60 years of age, which is the age of males in China retires, you do not get health insurance.  So, no health insurance, no job offers.
Some years back some fellows showed cards from Medicare/Medicaid, and got away with it for a while, until some Chinese was smart enough to find out it will not cover you here.
Your only option is to get privately (the employer will not pay for it) health insurance with one of those international carriers, but be prepared to sheel out from $ 3,000 to $ maybe over $ 10,000 per year depending on your medical history and condition.  Is it worth it?.  You will probably need your whole salary to pay for the health coverage.

Another alternative, if work is a must, will be to teach private lessons.  You can form a group up to about 6 persons, and for 1-1/2 hour lesson get 100 RMB per individual.  I do know an 87 years old Ex-Pat locally bwho has been doing this for years now, quite succesfully.

To work legally in China, you must have a work visa  -  not available to those over 60.  Best to work with small companies who don't worry about your visa, or individuals.  So it's not not just an insurance issue.

GuilinRaf:

Not true. I have one colleague who is 71 and antoher who is 64.
