My employer has recently requested that I work one afternoon at another school. It consists of about five 30 minute classes. I don't really have a problem with it but I do suspect that this is illegal. I suspect that my employer has received payment from this other school for me to teach there.
Is this illegal?

You are only allowed to work at the location of where your working visa is registered to. Lets say this is EF in district A and they want you to fill in for District B for one day at that EF in the district next to you, that is still illegal even though it's still EF.
Note: I am pretty sure that the other school is not authorised to hire foreigners.
Correct me if I am wrong but I believe our working type res permit stipulates one employer in one location. I could be wrong but I don't think so.

Unless there's some HUGE guanxi to be made out of this, OF COURSE payment has been received! (note - received, not 'offered'. So, your boss will basically NEED you to go there...this is obviously exploitable )
It's written in your FEC, at which (only one) place you can work. Get Chinese person to read the name and address of the School, you are entitled to be working from FEC.
My School gave me Contract with stipulation 'I must seek their agreement to moonlight elsewhere ....', despite I can legally work only at FEC (their) dedicated place.
Your boss pretty sure received compensation for your work elsewhere, beside 'no laowai hire cert.' most likely at other place.
I hate it when people follow silly rules and laws.... if it makes sense ... do it
It's very popular now in China training centers to rip off public schools and kindergartens with their advertising foreign teacher. Remind your employer of the rules and he/she will hate you
So it seem it is illegal but where I come from it's completely normal. Of the six foreign teachers living in my city who are not at the Sino Canadian school, five of them work at other places. All at the request of the education dept.
I'm the odd one out. However, about 3 years ago, the edu dept got me to teach a class of govt workers on a Friday afternoon.
The whole deal is nothing other than rafferty's rules. And anyway, who cares?
It is illegal and although your employer will be keeping 80-90% of the schools payment for your time YOU will be 100% liable for this.
If others here say it's illegal then it probably is. But, ... I know of training centers with a high profile, very well known in their city who have contracts to provide teachers to public schools, kindergartens and universities. Hell, my first job here I was sent out there myself. They've been doing it for years with I guess no problem.
If you're asking if it's illegal, then probably, technically, the same way VPNs supposedly are, or not carrying your passport with you everywhere you go.
If you're asking if it's ok to do it don't think there is a black and white answer to your question. It would depend on things like where you are, the school you work for and who they know.

There are some agents that the provincial governments have given the right to employ, but send to other places, FTs. This is so the schools can get FTs as needed, without the rigmarole of having to do all the red tape paperwork.
Not sure about training schools, though. Might theoretically be possible.
and what are the consequences if you refuse ?
remember where you are and no one will stand up for you or care
sadly you are fucked if you don't and screwed if you do .
not a lot of room to move im afraid.
i wish you luck
I am being screwed by my employer in the same different address issue while they went scotch free. I am being fined 20000 by PSB and employer got 5000. But I have things on the record and screwing back my employer back through legal proceedings.
Get everything in in written from your employer if they are sending you there so tomorrow if anything happens you can stand on with proofs. I am being lucky to be not asked to leave or deported but they can if they want. Good luck
