Q: Is it legal to leave China with thousands of dollars?
I read, on this site, that it is not permitted to leave China with loads of RMB but what about dollars?
I am saving money and every now and then I change it to dollars, hoping the dollar will recover. Will it be difficult to leave the country with it?

I left China a few times never searched to see how much i have.
Dont take the chance. Its not worth the risk. when you are ready to head home just have it sent to a home side bank account via western union or something of the like. Better yet, start sending it now so that you dont pay as much as you would sending a big lump sum.
its true that they dont always check. but you really dont want to be the exception.
Well if you are going to try, you do have a chance of making it without a problem. Or if they do stop you, well then you get to enjoy some nice long conversations on why you are smuggling "drug" money.
