Q: Is it normally this warm this time of year in Beijing?

Before moving to Beijing I heard horror stories of the cold winters. I know that come December/January it will get very cold but most people complain about those couple of weeks before they turn on the heating. Is it just me or is it currently not that cold? Friend back home are already wrapped up in coats and lond socks, but I keep getting away with my cardigan. Could this mean that winter wont be so horrific or has it just not turned yet?

It is not that cold now, but the tempreture will suddenly drop: it has been my experience that winter arrives suddenly, so be prepared !

So far it's been fine but I give it another week or so before the cold sets in. I think winter started earlier last year and I remember them turning on the public heating earlier than initially planned. Having said that though, the weather can be unpredictable so temperatures might just dramatically dip over night any day now. Enjoy the relatively mild temperatures while they last; winters here drag on for a very, very long time...
