Q: Is it OK to get a manicure/pedicure in Beijing?

I am looking to get some beauty time done but I want to make sure I do so in the most hygienic areas possible. Any good SPAS/beauty salons to try?

Thanks! Laughing out loud

You could invest in your own stuff and have them use that so you can be sure.

Well, in America, some places are safe and some aren't. Considering that the hygiene level here is lower, I'd suggest trying to find a place owned by a Westerner, if you can. If you can't, do what HugAPanda said. That's the only option you have where you know exactly how clean everything is. Even those little water dishes you put your feet in can be drowning in germs, no matter where in the world you go. Fungus is easily spread. Maybe you can just get your hair washed instead? It's sort of like a massage for your head.

Do it! Treat yourself! China is the place to pamper yourself for a fraction of the price. Go to the 4th floor of Yashow in Sanlitun and get your nails done there. It's one of the most popular places to get manicures/pedicures for foreigners and they do a good job. It costs 20 rmb for a manicure (+10rmb for OPI nail varnish) and 40/50 rmb for a pedicure. The one I often go to is called Lily Nails. They also offer foot massages, waxing and other beauty treatments.
