It's hard to answer without innuendo...

In China, people who give show superiority and people who get the present accept a subordinate position. Many Chinese will start what might look like a fight because all of them want to give presents, but don't want to be given any. You might believe they are warm and kind because of this, yet when you get to know Chinese society better, you could end up with the opposite general opinion. For example, that they care more about their social status than about yours or anyone else's feelings.

Anyway, you're a foreigner, so it doesn't matter that much.

cheekyYeah it sure is. You receive during birthday celebrations etc., You give when you want to congratulate somebody. They could also be having a birthday and it's a good idea to give at that time.

yes, no, or maybe.

u can give me a present though..  I kinda like those rectangular pieces of red paper w/ a picture of that funny old guy on front....  I've heard it brings the giver 'Good Fortune' if they give me the Lucky Number of them, which is 888.

I gave my father in law a piece of gold one time,,,,,  early when I got here .... 10 grams gold bullion ...  it's like $500+ worth of gold ..... I thought I was doing good ...a year or so later, I figured out, ..they didn't know or have a clue what to do with it......  couldn't show it off/couldn't wear it/  ...so it was useless ..no face here ,,,,,,  I suggested taking it and melting it around the big guys finger.............. didn't go over well ......

All I want in life is Silva's respect and friendship...

BHGAL:

OK ..... I can do that for you ... I now offer all the respect and friendship available from the biggest asshole I have ever not met,to you and in my wildest dreams I hope that because we now share the respect and friendship of this irritating asshole..maybe admin pig will do his best to avoid a confrontation and using available technology to pinpoint his whereabouts and  and deal with it or possibly  dealing with a pretty simple new age thing in a pretty simple good old days method. blah blah blah

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
