Q: Is it ok to yell at old beggars on the subway?

True story that just recently happened. Actually happened today on the subway. The walkway on the subway was pretty empty and there was an old beggar lady that's been doing this for awhile. I've seen her several times on the subway that I took. So I'm not sure what happened but she must have accidently kicked this girls foot or something.

The girl goes totally ballistic and starts yelling at the 70 + year old beggar lady. I guess since people were looking she started to yell even louder and it went on for several minutes. I saw that the beggar lady was trying to gesture to her that she was walking or something and kept moving on while this girl was shouting at her.

After that when the beggar lady was at the other cart I saw these people/witnesses just laughing with no respect to the elderly lady whatsoever. So is it ok to disrepect the elderly these days here? What's going on around here?

I assume this is a rhetorical question, isn't it?

I am sure this experience must have been hard on your shoulders. It would have been for me, no doubt at all. I wouldn't have waited  to see the end of the ongoing violent scene.  I would have jumped up and stepped in between that poor hearted girl and the old women. Had it been necessary I would have stared at her until she would feel my rage through her eyes and made her to transfer her anger to me until she would calm down.

No words, not a single one.

I learnt that at my school when teachers, young ignorant ladies, aged 22 to 25 believe they can poor all their frustrations against the vulnerable children including toddlers. I would step between the child and the Chinese teacher until she would notice me, feel embarrassed, lose her face, trying to defend her pride, pour her anger over me. It worked and it works. Now they know that anytime I enter the class or am around the kids, they have to behave and control themselves.

The elders are vulnerable and exposed to the changes of a society that no matter how civilized it pretends to become it pushes them at the limits of the ignorance and the abandon. When they end up in the streets, there is one lesson I learned from nobody else but from them. No matter what you're doing with your life, there's  always the danger to end up abandoned and forgotten by your own people, family and beloved ones.

Being an elder it's not an asset anymore in China. Too many of them end up in the streets. It happens in this Country where the family looks to be one of the most important values. When you see so many elders begging, you can foresee how rotten this value is.

When you see a young lady yelling at an elder women who also is begging for her daily food, you can understand how evil has grown legions in this civilized society and found its best place in the young ones. When you see an elder being abused, there you have the confirmation of the decline of any belief in good and the loss of hope to return to it.

it has nothing to do with gender and everything to do with money.

Everyone is expendable here especially women.

Are all old women beggars working for Triads?   No and most are not morons.

Do you want to play the game?.

I think the SAFEA contract restricts our yelling to old beggars, thus we cannot yell at old people simply for being old. It's a shame. However you may not be subject to a SAFEA contract in which case I suggest you do as the Romans do.  If you're in Rome. You know what I mean.

However you may yell at old foreigners. As a matter of fact, soon you will be able to lawfully yell at me, but I might knock you out.

Sadly , this happens all over the world. Beggars are oftentimes the recipients of all kind of abuse, be it from citizens to government.

Since many live on the streets due to mental problems, economic hardship, addictions, etc. they are among the most vulnerable in society.

Only briefly in the late 80's were they given any dignity and did people care, but like most fads, that too soon vanished.

This happens EVERYWHERE, not just in China.
