Q: Is it okay to bring a lot of fruits with you on the plane?
Thinking of bringing a lot of fruit on the way back from China. Is it legal to bring say...3-5 kilograms of fruits?

I don't know if it is OK or not, but I have brought in a lot of fruit from Australia. The ones that are of better quality than those in China so that i can give friends and relos a try (cherries, Bowen mangoes, Kiwi Fruit, apples, peaches, nectarines). I have never had a problem.

Sorry. Did not read the question. I thought you were asking about bringing fruit into China.
Rakifi - it all depends on what country you're going to. Australia is a 100% NO-NO!!! Even dried fruits, sand, dirt, wood, etc aren't allowed back into Australia, and you have to declare it (if you lie, and you're caught, there are tough penalties).
Other countries - I don't know - go check their customs and quarantine websites!
Actually, you can bring them on the plane, but good luck getting them through customs depending on what country you're going to.
If you are going to the US, there is no way you'll get them in. They will have dogs all over the customs line trained to smell food, drugs, and especially fruit because of the Asian Fruit Fly.
Dried fruit in sealed bags is usually ok, or canned. Not fresh - and especially mangosteens - the fruit flies lay eggs inside the rind.
Do not attempt to take a durian on any airplane as this is banned most places in the world as most people don't like a giant spiky ball that smells like a corpse in an enclosed environment.
You cant get fruits on a plane or off!
Fruits will not be accepted by security before boarding. Fruits cannot be imported in any country that grows fruits because of fear of dangerous bacteria for local fruits.
